"All Red" is a song by American rapper Playboi Carti, released on September 13, 2024, by AWGE and Interscope Records.[1] The song was written alongside producers F1lthy, Ojivolta, Lucian, Lukrative and Twisco. Critics noted that it continued Carti's departure from his signature "baby voice", opting for deeper vocal style, which fans likened to Future.[2] The song acts as the lead single for his upcoming studio album, I Am Music. "All Red" is also the first official solo single by Playboi Carti since 2020's "@ Meh", which released four years earlier.[3]

Background and promotion

[edit]

"All Red" was recorded sometime in early 2022, during sessions for I Am Music.

A second-hand recording of the song's chorus unofficially surfaced through Instagram on April 5, 2023 alongside other recordings of unreleased songs that were worked on in 2021–2022, with the song claimed to have been recorded in the latter year.[4][5] The original video containing the audio, which was filmed at an unknown recording studio during a session for Carti and dated as being taken on February 5, 2022, surfaced on April 27, 2023.[6] The song, which was not officially titled or previewed at the time, was given the nickname "All Red" by Playboi Carti's fanbase.

On June 15, 2024, Playboi Carti premiered the full version of "All Red" during his performance at Lyrical Lemonade’s Summer Smash music festival.[7][8] He would continue teasing "All Red" throughout social media, posting a photo of himself aboard a private jet on Instagram, with "All Red" printed and written onto his hat.[9]

Release

[edit]

"All Red" was released on streaming platforms on September 13, 2024, as the lead single for Carti's upcoming third studio album, I Am Music.[10] It was his first solo single to be released officially since 2020's "@ Meh", which released four years earlier.[11] A visualizer for the song depicting a party in Brooklyn celebrating his birthday was released three days later on September 16.[12]

Critical reception

[edit]

XXL Magazine noted the similarities of the song to Future's style.[13]

The Face named the song as one of the "best new tracks" as of September 16, 2024.[14]

Commercial performance

[edit]

"All Red" debuted at number 3 on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, serving as Carti's seventh top-ten song on the chart and his first as a lead artist. The song debuted at number fifteen on the US Billboard Hot 100.[15]
