Bill Schmidt (born August 1959) is an American baseball executive. He is the general manager of the Colorado Rockies of Major League Baseball and former coach and talent scout. [1][2]
Schmidt graduated from Magnolia High School in Anaheim, California, in 1981.[2] He earned his bachelor's degree from California State University, Long Beach. His first job after graduating was as the head coach of Magnolia High's baseball team. As he shifted into coaching college baseball, he earned a master's degree from Azusa Pacific University.[3]
Schmidt served as a scout for the Cleveland Indians, New York Yankees, Cincinnati Reds, and the Major League Baseball scouting bureau.[1] He joined the Rockies organization in 1999.[4] The Rockies named him their interim general manager on May 3, 2021, following the resignation of Jeff Bridich. On October 2, the Rockies hired Schmidt as their general manager.[5]
