Dr. Fontes was born in Miami, Florida, to Therese Quelle Fontes, a professional dancer and former cheerleader for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers[4] and Tampa Bay Rowdies, and John C. She attended Rochester Adams High School, where she was part of two state championship-winning soccer teams.[8]
Dr. Fontes played soccer competitively throughout her youth and received multiple Division I college soccer offers. She attended Florida State University (FSU)[1], where she set records for minutes played and least goals conceded in a season. She was a member of the FSU team that reached its first ACC Championship game in 2001[9]. During college, she also played in the W-League with Tampa Bay United and Jacksonville Jade at the semi-professional level.
Dr. Fontes earned a Bachelor of Science in Sports Management from Florida State University with a focus on business and communication. She later obtained a Master’s degree from Northeastern University, specializing in leadership, organizational communication, and project management. She completed a Doctorate in Sports Management at FSU, with research in strategic management and entrepreneurship.[10]
