David Thomas McFaddin (born September 3, 1977) is an American educator who has served as the 14th president of Eastern Kentucky University since August 2020. He previously served as interim president following the resignation of President Michael T. Benson in January 2020.

Early life and education

McFaddin was born and raised in Johnson County, Kentucky, graduating from Johnson Central High School in 1995.

A first-generation college student, he went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in public relations from Eastern Kentucky University, graduating summa cum laude in 1999, and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Kentucky in 2006.

Following his return to Eastern later in his career, McFaddin earned a Doctor of Educational Leadership degree from the institution in 2015. His dissertation, an early indication of his ambitions, focused on the successful leadership of rural universities.

Career

While pursuing his undergraduate degree, McFaddin was employed as a carpenter for the Jenny Wiley Theatre as well as an intern member of Bellsouth's legislative and external affairs team. He would continue his time at Bellsouth following graduation as an area manager of operations and, following their acquisition by AT&T, as Regional Director for Legislative and External Affairs.

In 2011, McFaddin returned to Eastern as an adjunct professor of communications and educational leadership before becoming the university's Executive Director of Governmental Affairs and Regional Stewardship.[1] In 2015,

On December 11, 2019, President Michael T. Benson announced his resignation from Eastern Kentucky University, effective January 6, 2020.

Personal life

In 1997, McFaddin married Melissa Dye on August 4, 2001, and have three children. They currently reside on their farm in Madison County.
