Draft:Pangaia (brand)

{{afc comment|1=Hello! I left a comment in the "talk" section responding to the COI and paid editing suspicions, I apologize if that was the wrong place to respond as I'm still getting used to the interface. I have absolutely no affiliation with Pangaia (never worked there, don't know a single person who works there, or even shops there). I was not paid to write this. I wrote this article because one of my interests is sustainability, and I noticed a lack of coverage of prominent sustainable brands that I thought I could address. I plan to submit more pages about sustainable brands after this one, I actually already have one drafted about another sustainable fashion brand Zero Waste Daniel. Just waiting to submit until I can see if I can successfully post this one.

If you don't accept this draft, I would love some guidance on what I can do in future ones so that the reviewers will believe that I have no affiliation to the brands. I have tried making it as neutral as possible, but I feel as if y'all might have already made up your minds about my COI status.- Mike}}

Pangaia, founded in 2018, is a fashion brand and materials science company that sells athleisure, wardrobe essentials, and graphic T-shirts made from sustainable materials developed and patented by the company.[1][2][3]

Research and development of sustainable materials for their product lines occurs at their lab in Florence, Italy led by Enrico Cozzoni.[4][5] Pangaia's Chief Innovation Officer is Dr. Amanda Parkes.[6] Notable material innovations include "FLWRDWN," a plant-based and biodegradable alternative to traditional down, and a seaweed and cotton t-shirt with a natural antibacterial finish.[7][4][8][9]

History

[edit]

Pangaia originated from Future Tech Labs, an incubator focused on material innovation that was established by Miroslava Duma.[10] Duma, initially an influencer in the fashion world, transitioned into a venture capitalist and played a key role in developing technologies and brands centered around sustainability and materials science.[10]

Pangaia experienced rapid growth during the pandemic, which attracted backing from high profile names, including Will Smith, Jaden Smith, Carmen Busquets and Leonardo DiCaprio.[10][4]

In 2022, Pangaia reported substantial net losses.[11][12][13] The company restructured in 2023 by laying off a third of its workforce and closing its warehouse in the Netherlands.[11] They have seen a stabilization since.[11]

Krishna Nikhil served as the chief executive of Pangaia for 18 months before stepping down from his role in December 2023.[14][15] Before this role, Nikhil was a consultant and Chief Marketing Officer at Ssense.[14] Pangaia announced that Nikhil will continue to contribute as an advisor, but his position has been filled by Nathalie Longuet, a co-founder of Pangaia who has now taken on the role of chief executive.[10][14][4] Longuet still holds this position as of 2024.

Collaborations

[edit]

Pangaia has collaborated with artists, fashion brands, and sustainable material innovators such as Timberland,[16][17] Nativa, Takashi Murakami, Ambush, Alexander Wang, The Woolmark Company, Evrnu,[18] Kenny Scharf,[19] and BLOOM Foam.[7][8]

Other notable collaborations include partnerships with Polestar,[8][20] Headspace,[21] Wagamama,[22] Costa Brazil,[23] and others.[24][25][26][27]
