A bald dwarf who flies around on a jet pack, Gizmo is a genius inventor who can turn seemingly innocuous objects like vacuum cleaners into dangerous weapons.[2] Gizmo creates a corporation which supplies technology to various people, including criminals. Hoping to increase his wealth, Gizmo joins the Fearsome Five through an ad placed in the Underworld Star by Doctor Light.[3]
After several unsuccessful conflicts with the Teen Titans, Gizmo goes straight for a while, and takes a job at S.T.A.R. Labs,[1] until his former Fearsome Five teammate Psimon, after having been seemingly killed by his teammates, resurfaces looking for revenge, and shrinks Gizmo to microscopic size. Years later, Gizmo returns to his normal size and goes back to crime alongside Mammoth.
In Outsiders (vol. 3) #12–15 (July–October 2004), Captain Marvel enemy Doctor Sivana hires the Fearsome Five to steal money from LexCorp. However, Sivana kills Gizmo after refusing to follow his demands.[1] Gizmo later returns as a zombie in Teen Titans (vol. 3) #31 (2006).
In DC Special: Cyborg issue #5, a new Gizmo debuts who is the son of the first and is based on the Teen Titans animated series incarnation of the character.[1] After graduating from the H.I.V.E Academy, he succeeds his father as Gizmo.
In The New 52 timeline, a version of Gizmo first appears as a member of the Fearsome Five and ally of the Crime Syndicate.[4] He is sent with the other members of the Fearsome Five, along with Doctor Psycho and Hector Hammond, on a mission in which he is defeated by Cyborg and the Metal Men.
In DC Rebirth, Gizmo appears as part of the Fearsome Five.[5]
Another using the name, Brendan Li, known as Giz, is a former villain and friend of Nightwing. He is later killed while attempting to hack into a Spyral gauntlet, which electrocutes him.
Gizmo is capable of creating weaponry by transforming one machine into another, such as converting an ordinary vacuum cleaner into a tank.[1]
The Teen Titans (2003) incarnation of Gizmo appears in Teen Titans Go! (2004) as a founding member of the Fearsome Five.[10]
