Rangpur City Corporation (Bengali: রংপুর সিটি কর্পোরেশন; abbreviated as RpCC), is a local governing body that governs the city of Rangpur and some adjoining areas. It is responsible for managing civic services, under the Ministry of Local Government & Rural Development (LGRD). RpCC follows The City Corporation act, 2009. Rangpur City Corporation's total area is 205.76 square kilometers with approximately has the population of 7,96,556 people.[1] It is the second largest city corporation in Bangladesh by area.
Rangpur City Corporation was established in 28 June 2012. The RpCC government is elected by popular vote every five years, with the Mayor serving as the head of the corporation. The Mayor is supported by a council of 55 elected councillors who represent different wards of the city. The first elected mayor of the Rangpur City Corporation during 2012–2017 is Sharfuddin Ahmed Jhantu.
The Rangpur City Corporation is responsible for administering and providing basic infrastructure to the city.
