Whistle note

[edit]

Blu hits her highest note in the song "waste my time". It's gotta be close to or in the seventh octave i'm sure. It was very high.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.200.116.139 (talkcontribs)

Its Bb6. Well in the whistle register Myke 07:36, 12 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
B6 actually and therefore she doesnt belong in the seventh octave category if she hasnt actually displayed a note in the 7th octave so please dont keep putting her in there.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.195.85.42 (talkcontribs)
IMDB says seventh octave, so thats why we are listing her in the seventh! Antares33712 04:58, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
She hasnt hit a seventh octave note though as the only one that shes ever hit was a B6. She doesnt belong in the seventh octave category just like Mariah isnt credited with an 8 octave voice which is published in some sources.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.159.194.152 (talkcontribs)
Its Bb6. The whistle notes she hits are: G#6, Bb6, G6, G#6, F6. In that order. I still think her whistle is one of the nicest. Myke 08:22, 2 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Whistle-tone, part 2

[edit]

I removed a reference to whistle-tone Blu supposedly uses in an unreleased song because there is no proof provided that the song even exists, let alone her use of whistle-tone. Then I noticed a bit of a debate going on in the page's history...I still think it doesn't belong in the article without a citation, as it's not common knowledge. Putting a {fact} tag on it doesn't increase its legitimacy. In my opinion, it compromises the integrity of the page. But I'm aware the debate isn't settled; this is just my two cents. --Marysunshine 18:46, 4 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Infact, it's quite simple, thanks to WP:LIVING - if you cannot verify something for a living person, it cannot be in the article. LinaMishima 03:02, 6 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Past

[edit]

Rumors are that she previously was a pornstar before becoming a singer . This was apparently in the 90's and 80's. This needs to be verified.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.80.222.211 (talkcontribs)

She posed in Black Tail magazine in 1996, but she never made a porn video. Antares33712 15:52, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Porn is porn. People love to try and pretty up low-down behavior these days by changing the name. When you spread em, it's porn.--71.235.81.39 17:49, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Seventh Octave and Whistle Register

[edit]

In the opening track, "Waste My Time" from her debut album, So Blu.[1] Cantrell hits notes in the seventh octave. According to an interview with Neil McCormick at smh.com.au, Cantrell mentions she has a 5 octave range, as well as her struggles to get noticed in the music business, "I'd get on stage and I'd sing and hit five octaves. I coulda did a backwards flip and they woulda sat there and gone, 'Hmm, I don't know!'

The first sentence in the above is 'original research' and not referenced by an official source. Furthermore, one of the criteria to be on the seventh octave list is that the person has to have multiple recordings displaying such ability. I am also not pleased with the second sentence because it was Blu herself who declared that she has hit 5 octaves and not the interviewer him/herself declaring this. Until more suitable information is available I do not think Blu's name is to be readded. ke'ke 10/30/06 7:28am —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.213.98.17 (talkcontribs)

Bipolar disorder?

This article was previously tagged with Category:People with bipolar disorder. As no evidence whatsoever has been presented in the article to support this assertion, and Googling finds no sign of such evidence, I'm removed the tag. -- The Anome 08:17, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Blu Cantrell(Birth Date)

[edit]

i'm fed up typing the same thing over and over would you just change it, it's getting frustrating and annoying.

you clearly know less about her than i do and you already use MY site as a source, i don't understand your logic.

here is what i said earlier(yes i saved it because i knew you what your like and would delete it)

Blu Cantrell's birthday is wrong for about the one-hundredth time! she was born on: 16th of March, 1976 which makes her a Pisces and the age of 31.

On Blus OFFICIAL MYSPACE (not the one you can find on google btw..its fake) she has age down as 91..wonder why (let me tell you, since i have no doubt you can't work it out) because the month and the day are correct but she changed the year.

also since 2004 agencys like wireimage and filmmagic have photoed her at her bithday party(s) oh and guess what it was in March.

wiki you need to get your act together..getting simple facts wrong like an artists birthday wrong then ignoring it when a fan tells you, is why you will never be a creditable source.

oh and to further my proof (since i have no doubt you will choose to ignore this as well) here is a cap from Blu's OFFICIAL MYSPACE [URL=http://img185.imagevenue.com/img.php?image=49924_cap_122_215lo.jpg][IMG]http://img185.imagevenue.com/loc215/th_49924_cap_122_215lo.jpg[/IMG][/URL] get your act together wiki. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.145.42.98 (talkcontribs)

UPDATE!i have FOUND the video of where Blu tells photographers her birthday (16th of March, 1976) shall i upload it? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.142.133.115 (talk) 00:55, August 25, 2007 (UTC)

From her Mother's mouth, artist-author Susi Franco: Blu Cantrell, nee Tiffany LEE ( NOT Cobb, Cobb was her mother's maiden name, is NOT her legal name no matter what you read/heard/or from whom) was born NOT in 1976 but 1973. She is the oldest daughter of 6 children, has a brother aged 41 and a sister aged 37 whom she is between in terms of birth order. She was born NOT in RI but WV. She subsequently moved to RI with her family and was raised there. These facts are easily proven via Bureau of Vital Statistics in Charleston, WV, all of which is in the domain of public information. Birth dates & Bio info conflicting with the true facts were generated by PR at Arista Records ( also verifiable) and have a passing relationship to reality. Ms Cantrell said what she was told to say; PR feared her true age would lose some of her demographic and therefore money out of thier pockets so they altered her information.

Blu Cantrell WAS born March 16th, 1973. She has NEVER been a "porno star". She did pose for pix for Black Tail, back when she lived in the Big Apple and was sharing a tiny apt with 5 other people, sleeping on the floor and pretty much starving. She sometimes worked in a salon sweeping up other people's hair and doing grunt work, so she could have a few dollars in her pocket. Care packages from home were often all she had to eat for days at a time. The photos were offered to her and she called her Mom crying, asking for advice. Doing the shoot meant being able to remain in NY and continue working, which eventually got her the gig doing back-up for Puffy and Faith Evans. Had she given up and gone home, there'd likely have been no "Hit 'Em Up Style". It was an excruciatingly difficult decision for her to make, but she made it so she could remain in NY and sing. Her Mother gently cautioned her that such photos could come back to haunt her someday, but told her to do what she felt was best for her, what she felt she could live with. Blu made her choice and three Grammy noms later, it appears to've been the right thing for her at that time. It was a matter of survival, NOT a career choice.
Blu Cantrell is not bi-sexual, has never been in her life and such idle gossip serves no real purpose other than to cater to a negative agenda for those who wish to cast shadowy speculation on her personal life.
Her voice is a highly refined instrument and she works very hard to maintain that level of excellence. These questions and comments about "seventh octave" notes lean toward the inane. The true full range of her voice is best witnessed at a live concert, where no A&R guys are editing. She does indeed have a (minimum)five octave range and if you have any musical training at all and listen to her entire discography you will hear it for yourself. There are several songs you can hear her "whistle-tones" in, for those who care about such things. Most of the comments here towards the whistle tone issue are made by those who wish to give the appearance of being an audiophile expert of some sort and have no bearing whatever on the quality of Blu Cantrell's recordings, which are still being played, still generating royalties for Ms Cantrell.
This information has been left here by a first degree blood relative of Blu Cantrell who can verify every single syllable. Her entire family is disgusted by some of the comments made by the uninformed who use Blu's name to appear informed; we are all weary of the garbage and would sincerely appreciate it if you could limit yourselves to buying her albums, attending her shows, enjoying her gift without acting upon a need to also tear her down.None of you really know much of anything real about her, other than rumors you've picked up or generated. Most readers here have no clue how long and hard she labored, how difficult it was growing up as a mixed-race child, what she has sacrificed to have the career she has had, how she has had to hold her head up and go on despite vicious remarks or how courageous she remains, in the face of uphill challenges that would certainly break a lesser woman. She has endured a life that has bowed her but not broken her. From her family who loves her, please find someone else to cast aspersions upon; you have no idea what a loving, kind and remarkable young woman she is. Some of these comments are abrasive, offensive and ignorant to the extreme.—Preceding unsigned comment added by PhoenixWmn (talkcontribs)
finally someone with who knows how it really is! i as a fan appreciate your post, and though i try and avoid the whole issue with the photos (not that i think there is anything wrong with it btw) i just don't think its relevant to what Blu is about now ie singing and now acting.
btw since your a family member or close friend i don't suppose you know anything about her up-coming album do you? i'm dying for it lol! http://www.musicianguide.com/biographies/1608003854/Blu-Cantrell.html —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.154.17.249 (talk) 02:22, 30 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
She doesn't have an upcoming album as of Dec 21, 2011. Soon she will be ready to return to the industry and will be actively working on a new album. I can't give you a hard date for that but will say material is being previewed as of this writing. I noted your entry was unsigned, usually the hallmark of a coward or crank.

Discography

[edit]

I'm pretty sure Cantrell collaborated with Mondo Grosso sometime in 2003 for his song "Blaze it up"(part of "Next wave" album). Where would I put this? Song appearances?... Though she's really the only person singing. —Preceding unsigned comment added by NsdrNPC (talkcontribs) 08:00, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Celebrity Circus

[edit]

Blu is starring in a new show for NBC called Celebrity Circus. I doubt she'll be doing much singing but I bet she'll hit a few high notes swinging from a trapeeze. It looks really funny...NBC.com has clips from the show. I'll be watching...it debuts Wednesday June 11th at 9:30pm. Check it out! 65.115.116.11 (talk) 18:31, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Celebrity Circus Update (?)

[edit]

Just saw her perform on CC (finale). Probably appropriate to add a mention to the paragraph about her involvement in the finale (for completeness), if someone can identify the song she sang.--CheMechanical (talk) 05:11, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

African American

[edit]

She is included in several African-American categories, however the article says her parents are of Native American (father) and Italian (mother) ancestry. 192.234.13.40 (talk) 22:05, 10 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
