The history begins

The cinema is located on the rear side of the block which contains the mondain Palace Hotel which fronts the City Hall Square.

Mondain is hardly an English word, and even as a highly educated native speaker I can't tell what is meant here by it; possibly "fashionable", but that's not enough for me, as it seems more likely to be a mistranslation or adaptation from another language.
