The Alsace SR, the Bavarian SR, the Slovak SR, has been really members of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics ? This template is about the republics of the USSR, not about every soviet republic that have existed in the history, isn't it ?

I am not very sure which policy is used to list a republic in the "short-lived" list... I've added the Galician SSR because I knew of it (it had army, government and all the attributes of a state, but lasted just a few months).
I am pretty sure there must be other cases of Soviet Republics that lasted a few months. Perhaps we should set a minimum duration of the republic for it to be even listed?--Gatonegro20:20, 27 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, if it existed, it existed. Information is still information. Since there is a "Short-Lived" section, I'd go ahead and list it there, offering the months of its duration as its date, along with the year.
The name of the template is "Republics of the Soviet Union", yet all of these other republics (Bavarian SR, Slovak SR) are included. Can somebody please enlighten me as to when these entities were part of the USSR? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.118.237.241 (talk) 03:28, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I was about to ask about the Chinese Soviet Republic. Even though the CSR (and Mao's early revolutionary army) was funded by the USSR, it doesn't seem to have been an offical part of the Soviet Union. Seems like someone should take a hard look at the countries that make up this template and try to determine exactly what information the template is designed to convey. After all, if the Chinese Soviet Republic (or the Bavarian Soviet Republic or…) was never part of the Soviet Union, it doesn't belong in this template, yeah? --Micahbrwn (talk) 08:58, 29 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ukrainian SSR → Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic
Kazakh SSR → Kazakh Soviet Socialist Republic
Tajik SSR → Tajik Soviet Socialist Republic
Turkmen SSR → Turkmen Soviet Socialist Republic
Uzbek SSR → Uzbek Soviet Socialist Republic
Armenian SSR → Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic
Azerbaijan SSR → Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic
Georgian SSR → Georgian Soviet Socialist Republic
Estonian SSR → Estonian Soviet Socialist Republic
Latvian SSR → Latvian Soviet Socialist Republic
Kirgiz SSR → Kirgiz Soviet Socialist Republic
Therefore, shouldn't the country names be listed in the full form on this template? From what I see, when a template has a link to a redirect, it sort of screws up how the template looks. I tried doing it myself, but it didn't work. —Micahbrwn (talk) 18:32, 4 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I don;t think the display names need to be spelled out in full each time, but the wikilinks should be. This is all under control of the flag template system, which I am currently updating to reflect the name changes. As I type this, Byelorussian SSR has been done so you can see what I mean. — Andrwsc (talk·contribs) 18:53, 4 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
TarzanASG has reverted the edit[1] with the comment: "here we don't classify equal republics by the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s". There was one major expansion of the Soviet Union, in 1940. We already differentiate between short-lived states, so it make sense to also indicated that expansion in 1940. --Nug (talk) 20:39, 18 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
