. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 07:04, 3 August 2022 (UTC)I suppose I should really back off here and I would appreciate any comment by NinjaRobotPirate, but I think it is reasonable to point out that my first venture into AFD came after 46 days membership and over 300 edits. Back in 2009–2010, AssociateAffiliate made their first venture into AFD exactly 46 days after opening their account. What a coincidence.
However, as I have already said at the AFD page, I hope that despite their outburst, obviously caused by frustration, AssociateAffiliate will think twice about quitting the site. I am more than happy to accept consensus if any or all of the articles I nominated should be retained. If I have made any mistakes, I shall learn from them as I always do.
I've said my piece and now I will move on. Thank you.

Hallo, Christopher Ling popped up on my watchlist because I PRODded a BLP article on someone else of that name many years ago.
I created a redirect from his full name Christopher George Ling as given in the lead, and it resolved a red link in 1937 Coronation Honours - but I don't see that CB mentioned in his article. Over to you. It's always a good idea to create redirects from other versions of someone's name, as it often resolves red links elsewhere, can help a reader who has a different name for the person they want to find, and also can help avoid duplicate article creation. I also added him to the surname list at Ling (surname). Thanks. PamD 09:06, 6 December 2022 (UTC)

You commented that These kind of nominations are very tedious for all concerned. WP:AFD is how articles are deleted and process was followed. If you don't like it, you don't have to participate in the discussion or even edit here. Either way, we could do without your snark. You may notice the other participants had much more constructive comments.

Hello. I have noticed that you often edit without using an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This helps your fellow editors use their time more productively, rather than spending it unnecessarily scrutinizing and verifying your work. Even a short summary is better than no summary, and summaries are particularly important for large, complex, or potentially controversial edits. To help yourself remember, you may wish to check the "prompt me when entering a blank edit summary" box in your preferences. Thanks! Liz Read! Talk! 22:59, 13 July 2023 (UTC)

The article Spencer Crawley has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Fails WP:GNG. Not notable for his cricket career, article appears to have been created on cricket grounds and then hijacked to promote his business activities, which also appear non-notable as there is no significant coverage of him in the sources provided.

Hi. The List of Southland representative cricketers is a bit of an odd one out in that when you set it up you include Hawke Cup players. In my trawl through the Otago list that seems to be a bit problematic.
I've come across multiple examples of players where contemporary press reports are showing that they played HC cricket for Southland (or North Otago or Central Otago etc...) where there's no mention of this in CricketArchive - which is essentially the primary source for lists like this. Basically it's incomplete - certainly before the league structure existed it only covers some elimination matches and probably most challenge matches. As a result I don't think we'll ever get a full list of Southland Hawke Cup players, and the huge majority of the ones we can add will likely not be suitable for articles.
If you don't object, I'd like to cut the list down to just the first-class players and then have a look at those biographies and see what I can come up with for them. I imagine there are ones with potential as well as some who will have to be notes. What do you think? Blue Square Thing (talk) 11:37, 2 March 2024 (UTC)

Hello,
The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.
You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.
The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .
Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.
Kind Regards,

Hi, AA, I've been looking through the old Playfairs and you won't be surprised that the 1962 edition has a few things you might find useful. First, as I thought, Roy Marshall was chosen for the 1961 Playfair XI, as were Derek Shackleton and Colin Ingleby-Mackenzie. This is on pages 68/69, but photos only with minimal text.
There is a chapter called From Hambledon to a Hampshire Championship (pages 9 to 11), by John Arlott. On page 9, he writes about Hampshire's "run-getting power" and says of Marshall:
Roy Marshall has never batted better. While his stroke-making remained brilliantly aggressive, he played, at several crucial points, with a security quite amazing at such a scoring rate and, again and again, he wrested the initiative from opponents who had played themselves into a strong position.
On the same page, Arlott says of Henry Horton that he "wielded the strightest bat in England with unflagging patience and an insatiable hunger for runs".
Hampshire's County Review is on pages 92 to 93. Most of this is statistics plus a photo of Marshall playing a square cut. There are three paragraphs written by Arlott who says: "Those two contrasting yet complementary batsmen, Marshall and Horton, each scored over 2,000 runs in the championship". Later, he adds: "Just when the championship stood in hazard, Barnard threw off his previous self-doubt and became a dominating batsman".
The pen-pictures in The Playfair Who's Who of 1962 include for Barnard (page 147): "RHB, RM. Excellent field". Those for Horton and Marshall don't really add anything.
Reference details for this book would be Playfair Cricket Annual 1962, edited by Gordon Ross, published by Playfair Books Ltd, London.
I hope this is useful, and I'll let you know if I come across anything else. Best of luck. ReturnDuane (talk) 09:59, 7 January 2025 (UTC)
