Thomas Zahariou page

[edit]

Hey

Just saw you left some notes on the page Thomas Zahariou I created. Just want to get some clarification on what exactly is unreliable and also about notability? For the former, I used sources that reference him, but I can add more if needed. On the latter, he is a member of a very notable Australian comedy group.

Just need some clarification. Thanks Basetornado (talk) 12:36, 21 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Unreliable source on Kate Alexeeva

[edit]

Hi BoyTheKingCanDance, thank you for your attention to the page. Can you please help me understand which sources are unreliable and can we remove this tag if the unreliable sources are removed? Zuck28 (talk) 06:31, 20 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello my friend Zuck28. I hope you are doing great. Thanks for writing to me. Now, I may be wrong, and won’t argue if you revert me, but these two do not appear to be reliable sources: https://www.topmodeloftheworld.com/ and https://www.hola.com. I was also concerned by this youtube clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c48f-EQzwOE. For an essay explaining why not to use a YouTube video clip as a source, see: Videos as references.
Like you, I edit in good faith, and on this otherwise excellent page merely flagged a concern that these might not be reliable sources. If sources intuitively bother me, I open them and look to see if a named journalist has written the article (as I was pleased to see on https://chandigarhmetro.com/). That’s often a good indicator. I also check the WP:RSP page see if sources are listed there. I was pleased to discover, for example, that Rappler was considered reliable, whereas I had suspected it wasn’t.
I repeat that I am not dogmatic. I’m only an editor like you. If you disagree, by all means remove my tag, and I won’t edit war. With very best regards, BoyTheKingCanDance (talk) 06:50, 20 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your prompt response. I will remove these two sources. I have a genuine motive to learn more about it.
Also, I wanted to ask can I use LinkedIn profile as a reference for date of birth? I read in guidelines that primary sources can be used for personal details if posted by the subject. Am I right? Zuck28 (talk) 06:59, 20 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
https://www.topmodeloftheworld.com/ Is the official website of the pageant. Still it’s unreliable source? Zuck28 (talk) 07:04, 20 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Right, because it's not a third-party source, which is always preferred. BoyTheKingCanDance (talk) 07:09, 20 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
And Hola.com has a dedicated Wikipedia page of it, still unreliable? Are you sure? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C2%A1Hola! Zuck28 (talk) 07:06, 20 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
¡Hola! Zuck28 (talk) 07:08, 20 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The YouTube video is also from the official channel of the pageant. I am really confused, how come are they non reliable sources? Zuck28 (talk) 07:09, 20 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
My friend, lots of unreliable newspapers have Wikipedia articles on them. See, for example, the Daily Mail. It has vast numbers of readers and is notable, but that does not mean it's a reliable source. A wikipedia editor consensus (see the Daily Mail listed here: WP:RSP) determined that it is not reliable as it's a tabloid.BoyTheKingCanDance (talk) 07:13, 20 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
My friend, the advice against using videos like youtube as sources isn't to do with whether they are official sources or not, but to do with the fact that they are easily editable and can be changed or distorted. Plus, your logic is a tiny bit mistaken, with respect. Please see the page on third-party sources. Wikipedia prefers sources that are not connected with the subject of an article. Best regards always, BoyTheKingCanDance (talk) 07:22, 20 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Now I have removed the YouTube video link. And all the statements have multiple sources as citations. Can you please remove the tag now?
thanks in advance. Zuck28 (talk) 07:28, 20 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You can remove it. It doesn't have to be the person who added it. As I said above, I'm only an editor like you. It was just my judgment. Best wishes, BoyTheKingCanDance (talk) 07:29, 20 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
