The information contained in the post regards the Heartland New Zealand Party is incorrect. I am the party secretary for the Heartland New Zealand party. Mr Harry Mowbray has no affiliation to the Heartland New Zealand Party and the party is not anti the environment. If Stuff has details wrong, please take it up with them. We go by independent and reliable sources, and Stuff is generally accurate. Alternatively, you could find an alternate reliable source and post a link to it on the article talk page. Unfortunately, we cannot take the party's own website as an independent and reliable source as all political parties are in the business of promoting themselves.

Just noticed you're on a roll fixing all the wētā usages in Wikipedia – thanks so much! When I was looking through references I found a variety of spellings in published papers – wetas, weta, and wētā – and some researchers regrettably still aren't using macrons. Hi Gadfium. Unfortunately again some changes are being made to chess players pages , this time Kasparov , as far as highlighting his standing in ches history. I suspect this is done becuase the person doing this favours other players (i.e Fischer) and is trying to minimize other great players like Kasparov and Carlsen. The point of contention is about whether "greatest of all time" should be on Kasparov's page , this has been there for ages and has never bothered anyone until now. Hello Gadfium. The details in para 3 of this entry are not, in my opinion, historically accurate which is why I attempted to correct this with an amendment. Some of the information about the identity of the body is contained in the coroner's report of a drowning. This report is held by Archives NZ <ref> R24258546 (From: W L Simpson, Justice of the Peace, Mount Benger Date: 8 March 1865 Subject: Inquest proceedings, man unknown, supposed to be Charles Alms ACGS 16211 48/ah 1865/314) <ref>. This is not accurately represented in the present wording which is speculative as to the identity and disposal of the body, and ignores other information concerning the name of the deceased. Th role of the local community in the legend of the "lonely graves" also needs to be highlighted. In many ways discussion on the possible identity of the body is a distraction. You are welcome to correct the article, using the inquest results, but you need to be careful to stick to what the sources actually say, rather than putting your own interpretation of them. Since the inquest is well out of copyright, I see no problem with you quoting it in the article, and that would be helpful to others who don't have access to the archives.

If you want someone to assist you with editing the article, I suggest someone more local than I would be appropriate. • Community sanctions now authorize administrators to place under indefinite semiprotection any article on a beauty pageant, or biography of a person known as a beauty pageant contestant, which has been edited by a sockpuppet account or logged-out sockpuppet, to be logged at WP:GS/PAGEANT.

Technical news

• Sysops will once again be able to view the deleted history of JS/CSS pages; this was restricted to interface administrators when that group was introduced.
• Twinkle's block module now includes the ability to note the specific case when applying a discretionary sanctions block and/or template.
• Sysops will be able to use Special:CreateLocalAccount to create a local account for a global user that is prevented from auto-creation locally (such as by a filter or range block). Administrators that are not sure if such a creation is appropriate should contact a checkuser.

Arbitration

• The 2020 Arbitration Committee Elections process has begun. Eligible editors will be able to nominate themselves as candidates from November 8 through November 17. The voting period will run from November 23 through December 6.

Hi Gadfium, I read your message regarding the deletion of statements about coolest cities in the southern hemisphere. What feature did i get wrong about Auckland? Please elaborate on your contention.

The reason why Auckland, Bloemfontien, Santiago, and Maseru all vie for coldest capital cities in the southern hemisphere is that it depends on whether you are looking at average daily temp, highs, lows, monthly mean maximums/minimums, or all-time records. Each of these cities wins in one of these parameters.

As with the source, the source is the temperature data on the city articles themselves, which I also cross-checked with climate graphs of weatherspark.com. So what should be the convention of citing in this case?

Lastly, I think being the coldest capital city in the southern hemisphere is an interesting fact. @Gadfium: Oops, yes, good point that Auckland is not the capital. I should have said "city" rather than "capital". On the point of coldest cities in the Southern Hemisphere, if we can prove via public weather records what cities are the coldest, and cite such data, can we then include such information in Wikipedia? If no one has written an article explicitly about the topic outside Wikipedia, how can this information be brought to the public?

That slogan might be acceptable if the local business association uses it, in which case we would add a line such as "The local business association promotes Ashhurst with the slogan ...", but we must have a suitable source. You are also trying to add this to the wrong article, Ashurst which is a disambiguation page which links to several places, including Ashhurst. • When blocking an IPv6 address with Twinkle, there is now a checkbox with the option to just block the /64 range. When doing so, you can still leave a block template on the initial, single IP address' talkpage.
• When protecting a page with Twinkle, you can now add a note if doing so was in response to a request at WP:RfPP, and even link to the specific revision.
• There have been a number of reported issues with Pending Changes. Most problems setting protection appear to have been resolved (phab:T273317) but other issues with autoaccepting edits persist (phab:T275322).

Arbitration

• By motion, the discretionary sanctions originally authorized under the GamerGate case are now authorized under a new Gender and sexuality case, with sanctions authorized for all edits about, and all pages related to, any gender-related dispute or controversy and associated people. Hi. I included Whanganui Island not Coromandel in the link partly because the Whanganui Island has the detail of his stay - and the Coromandel page does not. Also Coromandel didn't exist at the time so his visit to it would have been difficult. Whoever looks at Coromandel is going to see nothing. I would have though just quietly directed the reader to Whanganui Island was ideal - No? So what would you suggest then? Is this entry better on the authors talk page or the article talk page? I have never been able to work out what the protocol is. @LawrieM:The two problems with your edit were that first, it was unsourced, and I didn't see any support for it looking at a couple of other biographies of Campbell, and secondly, if a reader clicks on a link called "Coromandel", they would expect to be taken to either the article on Coromandel town or the one on Coromandel peninsula. WP:EASTEREGG explains this in more detail.

What I would like you to do is to include a source for Campbell arriving at Whanganui Island. I see that at Whanganui Island there is a reference to Whanganui Island, a History: The Town that Never was, but this looks like a self-published book and might not meet our standards at WP:Reliable sources. You give a page number, but not which edition you are using (I can get a copy of either the first edition 1999, or the revised edition of 2007, but these are from different sources). In particular, I would like to see what citation the book gives to support its material. Once the source is established, the link should be direct to Whanganui Island.

Hi. I have added in the extra reference now. How does that look? As regards Piesse being " Self Published" - not sure why that is a problem. The booklet includes 27 separate detailed bibliographies, 3 notes, 1 certificate of Title and 4 maps.

I'm happy with that extra reference. I made a minor alteration to your citation. If you wish to restore your edit to John Logan Campbell, please add this citation, and perhaps for clarity you could say he arrived at Beeson's Island (now called Whanganui Island), or similar. Great news. The Wikimedia Foundation gave me the grant for the Performing Arts Aotearoa Wiki-Project. It starts on 17 May 2021 and runs for four months. Thanks for being a volunteer or endorsing it.

• Wikimedia previously used the IRC network Freenode. However, due to changes over who controlled the network with reports of a forceful takeover by several ex-staff members, the Wikimedia IRC Group Contacts decided to move to the new Libera Chat network. It has been reported that Wikimedia related channels on Freenode have been forcibly taken over if they pointed members to Libera. There is a migration guide and Wikimedia discussions about this.

Arbitration

• After a Clarification request, the Arbitration Committee modified Remedy 5 of the Antisemitism in Poland case. This means sourcing expectations are a discretionary sanction instead of being present on all articles. It also details using the talk page or the Reliable Sources Noticeboard to discuss disputed sources.

Euronesian is a portmanteau word used in Samoa to describe all the people that are not 100% Samoans. It includes "European" but also Chinese origins (or Black American). The proper word for Chinese (mixed) doesn't exist. During the colonial time, Mongoloid was used during census. The reason as in to why they do not have pages is because if I try to make a page everytime it goes onto auto-deletion. Therefore, it is a hassle. @NZDF1985: I don't see any indication that you've attempted to create articles on those people, but I looked at the article you created on Tim O'Connor, and I'm not surprised that it was deleted because it had no sources at all. • Consensus has been reached to delete all books in the book namespace. There was rough consensus that the deleted books should still be available on request at WP:REFUND even after the namespace is removed.
• An RfC is open to discuss the next steps following a trial which automatically applied pending changes to TFAs.

Technical news

• IP addresses of unregistered users are to be hidden from everyone. There is a rough draft of how IP addresses may be shown to users who need to see them. This currently details allowing administrators, checkusers, stewards and those with a new usergroup to view the full IP address of unregistered users. Editors with at least 500 edits and an account over a year old will be able to see all but the end of the IP address in the proposal. The ability to see the IP addresses hidden behind the mask would be dependent on agreeing to not share the parts of the IP address they can see with those who do not have access to the same information. Accessing part of or the full IP address of a masked editor would also be logged. Comments on the draft are being welcomed at the talk page.

Arbitration

• The community authorised COVID-19 general sanctions have been superseded by the COVID-19 discretionary sanctions following a motion at a case request. Alerts given and sanctions placed under the community authorised general sanctions are now considered alerts for and sanctions under the new discretionary sanctions.

I didn't see your comment; I don't watchlist every article I edit. I tend to agree that the community of 327 people with a primary school and a statistical area with over 2,000 people named after it is of more significance that 4 rocks in an isolated area. To make a case for the primary topic would require doing a few internet searches, and the rock article, having been on Wikipedia since 2005, might still win as the better known use of the name. I don't think it's worth the time to make the case. I've added a hatnote to the rock article. The Gisborne mountain doesn't have an article as far as I'm aware, so no hatnote is needed for the locality.-gadfium 00:43, 4 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

When I come across those things, I usually simply move the article that's hogging the primary topic and use the empty spot for a dab page.
