Hi @George Fidel, sorry for the late reply, I've been a bit busy lately. I've looked through the draft and I don't think it is currently ready. I think some improvements need to be made in regards to tone and referencing. Sources that are published by or related to the subject should not be referenced in the article, and the claims that these sources support should be more adequately referenced or removed. The tone should be neutral, and puffery should be avoided.
I'll be happy to look over it again, but before you continue working on the draft, could you first make sure that the subject meets Wikipedia's notability guidelines. In general, all subjects of an article should have multiple sources providing significant, independent and in depth coverage to them to merit an article, if that does not exist, the draft may not be approved. Would it be appropriate to change "Spinoffs" to "Subgroups" or "Subunits" under Background Information? This would apply to other K-Pop groups as well. "Spinoff" has a strong connotation related to TV in which some element of the original work is turned into something new and existing on its own while still in the same universe as the original. In K-Pop, a subunit exists under the umbrella of its main group. In Stray Kids, 3RACHA existed prior to the main group, so spinoff does not feel like an appropriate descriptor. I apologize if this was answered somewhere, I am somewhat new to editing. --Melbydwaekk (talk) 15:50, 10 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm trying to create an wikipage for a person. We have all citations, articles everything. Please let me know how to create a detailed wikipage. Thanks. --Astromoorthy (talk) 04:16, 15 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Astromoorthy, you've used "we" when referring to yourself, note that shared accounts are not allowed on Wikipedia.
It'd help a lot if you could give the name of the article/page that you've made so I can try to find out why (or if) it was deleted. Nothing on your account seems to indicate that you've created a page. Justiyaya04:36, 15 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry about that we, . This is Moorthy. It is not shared, this page is my page. I want to create a wikipage, can you let me know how to start about it. Astromoorthy (talk) 14:57, 17 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Astromoorthy, WP:1st would be a good place to go to get some guidance. Do know that writing a new article on Wikipedia is not really encouraged for beginners and could be really discouraging. You should try some tasks in the task center first if you'd like an easier start.
I'd still encourage you to point me to the name of your last article or provide more context about the one you are trying to make right now. It'd help me give much better advice Justiyaya18:51, 17 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, THank you so much for the suggestions. I have written my article, added citations, references everything and kept it under sandbox. But I cldnt see the publich button or even to point you. pelase help how to do that. Thanks. Astromoorthy (talk) 05:11, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Astromoorthy, writing a autobiography is not a good idea, we generally strongly discourage it and the subject does not seem notable. In most cases, the article will not be published and it'd be a much better use of your time to do something else instead. I should've noticed the page earlier and told you but I forgot to check for it when I saw your last message. Justiyaya01:15, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Justiyaya THanks for the feedback. I totally understand. But his is about an astrology and astrologer. When i read few wikipages, there are many pages about a single person. Not some topic, just about a single person especially film directors, singers, sportsperson, businessman, doctors etc et. Then any other issue in this page. Because this page is not for marketing purpose or any promotions.
Hi Astromoorthy, we usually only accept articles with multiple independent secondary sources providing significant coverage to the subject. Which means that the sources must cover the subject beyond brief mentions, be reputable, and not be paid for or connected to the subject. All the links in the article appears to be the same text republished as paid for promotional pages, which is why I do not believe that it could be published. Justiyaya22:02, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Dear @Justiyaya Thank you for your feedback. I would like to clarify that I have not paid for any of the citations. The publications were either reached out to by me or approached me directly due to my work on building a temple, writing a book on astrology, and exploring wedding astrology. If these were paid articles, I would have provided distinct content and images to each. Additionally, there are references from reputable Tamil newspapers, which I’m unable to upload due to the platform's limitations.
I kindly request to do the needful and I appreciate your understanding and assistance.
@Astromoorthy I mean... regardless of whether you've paid for it or not, they are clearly promotional in nature. I'm sorry, the draft has a extremely low chance at getting published that I just don't think it's worth your time to continue. Justiyaya13:21, 8 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
On the article linked below, the table is wide enough that you need to scroll horizontally if you want to reach its end. I want to shorten it in order to fit it inside the webpage (no horizontal scrolling needed) and also to fit some images on the side for some reference.
Is it possible to shorten the width of a table? If so, how?
Thanks in advance.
Hi @Bis-Serjetà?, good question! I'm not exactly good with tables (I think I've touched it one or twice in my Wiki editing career)... I've asked for you on the help desk and they'd definitely know the answer. Justiyaya05:32, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The Growth team released Community Configuration at all Wikipedias. You can access it at Special:CommunityConfiguration.
This new special page replaces Special:EditGrowthConfig. For now, all Growth features can be configured using Community Configuration. Configuration for AutoModerator (T365046) and other features will be available in the future.
We will add a new Community Configurable module to the Newcomer Homepage that will allow communities to highlight specific events, projects, campaigns, and initiatives. We have released a simple version available to beta wikis. We will conduct an A/B test at our pilot wikis using the new Metrics Platform. We still welcome community feedback on initial designs and plans, in any language at our project talk page.
As part of the Growth team 2024/2025 Annual Plan, the Growth team will explore various ways to increase the percentage of newcomers who successfully start editing.
Editing a Wikipedia page requires too much context and patience. It means many trial and error for newcomers to contribute, meaning a steeper learning curve and potential discouraging reverts. To support a new generation of volunteers, we will increase the number and availability of smaller, structured, and more task-specific editing workflows (E.g. Edit Check and Structured Tasks). The Growth team will primarily focus on Structured Tasks, while working closely with the Editing team to ensure our work integrates well with Edit Check.
Growth team weekly updates are available on wiki (in English) if you want to know more about our day-to-day work. If you want to receive more general updates about technical activity happening across the Wikimedia movement (including Growth work), we encourage you to subscribe to Tech News.
Users wishing to permanently leave may now request "vanishing" via Special:GlobalVanishRequest. Processed requests will result in the user being renamed, their recovery email being removed, and their account being globally locked.
@Merqalicious, that's not usually a good idea. In short, if your soccer team should get an article, someone (a wikipedia editor) would likely write an article for it. Writing about an article something you have a conflict of interest with is usually discouraged. For the policies surrounding it, check out WP:N and WP:COI. Justiyaya07:32, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Following an RfC, there is a new criterion for speedy deletion: C4, which applies to unused maintenance categories, such as empty dated maintenance categories for dates in the past.
The arbitration case Historical Elections is currently open. Proposed decision is expected by 3 September 2024 for this case.
Miscellaneous
Editors can now enter into good article review circles, an alternative for informal quid pro quo arrangements, to have a GAN reviewed in return for reviewing a different editor's nomination.
Hello ScribblingScribe, Wikipedia:Cleaning up vandalism is a really good way to get started reverting vandalism. NPP is a bit too early for you, maybe after some work in reverting and some article creation. I'm not as active on Wiki at the moment unfortunately and adoption is usually for those with a bit more time spent here. However, I'll be happy to guide you and answer any questions that may come up if you want to text me on discord or through a thread here if that's what you prefer. Hello Sikandar khattak, I have removed the sections you've posted below because I really don't understand what you are talking about, sorry. I would recommend emailing me with additional details so I can tell you where to go or using the "Help!" button on the top of this page to navigate to someplace that may be more of use. Hello @DejaVu809, it appears that someone already moved the page for you, thanks for messaging me. I've also seen that the draft was already declined, and I'll try to provide a bit more insight into why it was. The biggest issue in the article is notability, specifically, an article needs to be based off reliable sources that are secondary and independent to the subject. Adding a few newspapers covering the subject in detail, books, articles, magazines or even TV programs, could prove notability, our inclusion criteria for subjects. If sources like these do not exist but the subject is mentioned in reliable secondary and independent sources, it may be useful to send the content to an existing article, like Climate change in Australia#Policies and legislation. Justiyaya14:53, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Bis-Serjetà? Great question! Not a simple one as there are plenty of ways to do it. If you'd like to archive one single source, using the Archive URL (linking to something like Internet Archive) alongside the Archive date field after clicking on a citation would get you there. If you want to do all sources on a single page, or just want something automated to do it for you, I found the internet archive bot to be helpful. Justiyaya01:51, 22 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Question from Kevin9217 regarding new article creation
Hope this message finds you well. Is it possible you can take a look and review a new article I created? The article is regarding Emerson Foote. Your feedback is greatly appreciated.
Hi Kevin, thanks for the message, it's been a while. The article is looking really good right now! I went ahead and marked it as patrolled. There might be some interesting sources for you at google news archive to expand it just a tad bit more if you choose to. The article is quite extensive as it is and looks quite good. Feel free to message back whenever with more questions or things like these :D Justiyaya07:06, 22 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The Abbey House Wikipedia page contains several photos of Abbey House uploaded by an a 3rd party (cmglee) who we have no relationship with.
Some of the tenants are unhappy about some of the photos of the property on the Wikipedia page for safety and security reasons and would like them removed from the page.
Hi WindhorseTrust, this is complicated. The image was uploaded by Cmglee, who took the photos themselves. I don't see a copyright/legal reason why we would be required to remove it and I don't think there is any policy surrounding the requested removal of interior images. I wouldn't count on it being done but you could email info-en-qwikimedia.org, which is from what I've gathered the correct way to go about requesting a change in an article that you are involved with. Do not edit the article yourself as you are related to the subject.
On another note, if you would like to continue working under the same account, please request a change of username. Wikipedia does not allow accounts that hold the name of a group as each account could only belong to a single person by policy. Additionally, review the paid editing policy if you are going to continue working on subjects where you are professionally related – note that you must disclose a conflict of interest on your user page (something like I am being paid by ___ for my contributions on ___ would suffice). We will add a new module to the Newcomer Homepage that will allow communities to highlight specific events, projects, campaigns, and initiatives. We have released a simple version on beta wikis and we will soon start an A/B test on our pilot wikis. This module will only display on the Newcomer Homepage if communities decide to utilize it, so learn how to configure the Community Updates module, or share your thoughts on the project's talk page.
After showcasing early design ideas at Wikimania, we conducted user testing of design prototypes. We now aim to engage communities in further discussions and plan to run a targeted experiment, presenting a structured task within the reading view to logged-in new account holders with zero edits.
This Community Configuration extension was developed to help communities customize wiki features to meet their unique needs. The Growth team is now helping other Wikimedia Foundation teams make their products configurable:
The Moderation Tools team now provides Community Configuration for Automoderator. (T365046)
Certain Babel extension settings will be configurable soon. (T328171)
As part of the Growth team annual plan, we will continue to investigate ways to increase constructive activation on mobile, while also working with Data Products to move forward A/B testing functionality via the Metrics Platform.
Growth team members presented Community Configuration: Shaping On-Wiki Functionality Together at Wikimania (slides). The session recording is available to watch on YouTube. This session provided an update on the Community Configuration project and introduced details about the upcoming features that communities will soon be able to configure. Representatives from the Moderator Tools, Editing, Web, and Campaigns teams shared their plans for utilizing Community Configuration in the future. Following these presentations, the WMF Growth team's Benoît Evellin and Martin Urbanec answered audience questions.

Unrelated question: should I use |first=John 1, Jane 2 |last=Doe 1, Doe 2 or |first=John |last=Doe |first2=Jane |last2=Doe in citations with multiple authors? I personally think the latter format looks cleaner. WaterQuark (talk) 21:18, 9 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I was wondering about creating a disambiguation article titled "2025 census". For your information, it will be the newest disambiguation article in a series of disambiguation articles titled "[YEAR] census", with each containing a list of articles about censuses which occurred in a certain year.
Currently, there is only 1 article about a census which will occur in 2025. Should I create the "2025 census" disambiguation article now or wait until another article about another census in 2025 is created?

Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

I have been editing the "List of Eastern Orthodox saints" for so long now that the article has grown to over 315,000 bytes in size and around 900 entries in the list. I plan on further expanding the list to over 2000 entries.
My question to you is, when should I split the article into several articles by alphabet? Currently, the article is at that awkward size where it's very large as one entity, taking quite long to load on certain wifi connections, yet it seems it's too small to be split into 2 or more articles.
Thanks in advance. --𝔅𝔦𝔰-𝔖𝔢𝔯𝔧𝔢𝔱𝔞?20:14, 1 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Bis-Serjetà? I do agree that it is quite large. I'm not that great with lists or splitting pages. I don't think I've seen a list that is split alphabetically though but rather more so those that are split by characteristic (see Lists of British people and Lists of Americans). If you were to split it into multiple pages it'd be better to do it by era? It would probably be more helpful to WP:Help Desk this, great question as always :D Justiyaya03:51, 2 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

All former administrators may now only regain the tools following a request at the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard within 5 years of their most recent admin action. Previously this applied only to administrators deysopped for inactivity.
Following a request for comment, a new speedy deletion criterion, T5, has been enacted. This applies to template subpages that are no longer used.
Hi Braleomengo, editors don't usually take requests to write an article. Writing a new article as a beginner is extremely difficult, looking at some other tasks to start with would probably be better. Hi @Cactusisme, welcome back! WP:Arbcom is a panel of editors elected by the community that acts as the final step in resolving behavioral issues on the site using cases and motions, similar to a justice system. They also appoint checkusers (users able to view and link IPs of accounts), oversighters (allows user to suppress edits and view suppressed edits, usually for accidentally leaked personal information), deal with cases with private evidence, and manage contentious topics. This is probably a good overview on it and most of it you would probably not need to be that concerned with as an editor. Contentious topics would be a helpful read if you wish to edit in those areas. Justiyaya09:08, 9 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Mrprice01, what article are you referring to and what changes would you like to make? usually clicking the "edit" button on the top right hand corner would get you to an edit screen. Help:Editing might also help! Justiyaya12:07, 10 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Cactusisme I've taken a look. You have a lot of sources in the article, but only a few are usable or useful. Wikipedia has a higher standard for sourcing for biographies of living people, and the amount of sources that are unreliable is much higher than it should be. The WP:FORBES source is unusable, [1] has the note "this transcript does not go through our standard editorial process and may contain inaccuracies..." on it, and [2]. The original reviewer left a note saying that it lacked sources to show notability, and I would agree. While there are enough reliable sources providing coverage, whether it is significant or not is questionable. I find a significant amount of the sources in the article just to be quotes from the subject themselves, [3] and [4] for starters. These sources are not that useful for notability, which requires significant coverage by multiple reliable secondary sources that are independent of the subject.
I would recommend starting a new project if additional sources cannot be located (I haven't done a thorough search yet). This happens a lot to newcomers and is very very common. Let the draft be in case new sources surface. Check with me before you start writing your next article with WP:THREE best sources on the subject.
As a separate note, @Taabii: I don't think this helps a newcomer understand policy much. It's better usually to explain to them why the sources are insufficient than simply pointing them to policy. Really really impressive reviewing work in the last few days though, well done! Justiyaya15:21, 25 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Justiyaya Thank you so much for your guidance. At first, I thought that everyone would read and understand all the guidelines on their own as I did. However, it's true that people need more active help in understanding them if they are new contributors. From now on, I will act upon your suggestions and do my best to make newcomers understand the guidelines and policies. Appreciate your kind recognition of my reviews, it is sweet! I love sharing my knowledge on Wikipedia because it has been one of my greatest teachers. Taabii (talk) 16:30, 25 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Eurik12, although changing usernames is a thing, it's probably better to simply create a new account and stop using your current one (you cannot switch back and forth). This would ensure that you cannot be (publicly) linked to your old username. Justiyaya23:35, 27 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Justiyaya, my I kindly ask you to reconsider your decision to move page Igor R. Janev into Drafts. Me and other users contributed to improvements of that article and included more references. Comparable to categories related to Macedonian diplomats, sources here are many times more numerous. (For instance, in many cases there were no references at all.) Article on Igor Janev exist on 18 Wikies already and Wikimedia Commons.Academician.NYAS (talk) 14:17, 31 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Academician.NYAS as per the note at the bottom of your talk page, writing an autobiography is strongly discouraged. Standards vary by wiki, and some of the other language articles probably shouldn't exist as well. I do not think any experienced reviewer would accept the draft in its current form or in any other version in the past year. I trust that your valuable time could be better spent elsewhere, so I've rejected the draft. If you would like to become a volunteer on the site, choose a task from the task center and start helping out. Justiyaya17:25, 31 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Question from Madhunagpal (07:20, 1 February 2025)
Hi @Madhunagpal, the draft will be reviewed after you click the blue submit button on the top of the page. If you are editing with a conflict of interest, you need to disclose it with a statement on your userpage. As of now, the draft does not have inline citations in several sections (which is needed for biographies of living people), has a promotional tone (language on wikipedia needs to be neutral), and does not have multiple reliable secondary sources providing in depth coverage to the subject that demonstrates notability. Please ensure the last point, notability, is resolved before continuing as no amount of editing can overcome a lack of notability.
Lastly, I would advise against making an article as the first thing you do, especially the draft you have. If you are here to make Wikipedia a better place, there are much easier and better ways to get started. Reply to this if you need any more help! Justiyaya08:59, 1 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi IP, if you are referring to the answer I posted above, it is not. That is a serious response. If you are referring to the draft being declined a few minutes ago, it was a good review. Justiyaya16:38, 2 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Administrators can now nuke pages created by a user or IP address from the last 90 days, up from the initial 30 days. T380846
A 'Recreated' tag will now be added to pages that were created with the same title as a page which was previously deleted and it can be used as a filter in Special:RecentChanges and Special:NewPages. T56145
@Cactusisme I do not think the article could be approved at the current state. Though I have little knowledge of the language, the majority of the sources appears to be by the subject themselves. Like I said before, it might be helpful to ask me before starting a draft about the subject's notability (providing your three best sources that would satisfy WP:GNG). I might take a closer look later if I have time but I'm a bit busy at the moment. Justiyaya01:57, 7 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Not having enough sources to establish notability in the article doesn't mean there is not. Sorry if I wasn't clear. You can always find more sources, add them in the article, and make it better that way. Justiyaya02:19, 7 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It was one sentence long when I gave you it though. Nice work on it! You did get the date of death wrong and there is a slight refbomb issue with the "Career" section. I personally think the tone is slightly off but it's probably fine. Again, thanks for writing it! Are you sure the date of birth is correct? If so, feel free to move it into mainspace directly or I could do it if that's what you'd prefer. Justiyaya13:50, 8 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hiya @Affinitystar! Thank you so much for the edit and for the question. Generally, we would not include quotes from a primary source, such as quotes in an interview/panel directly from the subject (as with the first source you've added), that hasn't been quoted by a reliable secondary source. While I do think your section could technically be included if LGBTQ Nation is considered reliable in this subject area (I'm not sure), I still would see if it receives wider attention to include it. I almost never edit articles surrounding US politics though. I've asked this on the teahouse, thanks for the interesting question. Justiyaya05:59, 8 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Affinitystar I've removed it per the second opinion. I would like to note that boldly editing like this is encouraged by policy and I'd encourage you to keep on doing so (we learn by doing on Wikipedia :). If you don't understand the policy, feel free to ask for clarification here! I'm always here to help.
Hello Justiyaya! The thread you created at the Teahouse, Second opinion on a mentorship module question, has been archived because there was no discussion for a few days.
