WikiCup 2018 May newsletter
The second round of the 2018 WikiCup has now finished. Most contestants who advanced to the next round scored upwards of 100 points, but two with just 10 points managed to scrape through into round 3. Our top scorers in the last round were:
Cas Liber, our winner in 2016, with three featured articles
Iazyges, with nine good articles and lots of bonus points
Yashthepunisher, a first time contestant, with two featured lists
SounderBruce, a finalist last year, with seventeen good topic articles
Usernameunique, a first time contestant, with fourteen DYKs
Muboshgu, a seasoned competitor, with three ITNs and
Courcelles, another first time contestant, with twenty-seven GARs
So far contestants have achieved twelve featured articles between them and a splendid 124 good articles. Commendably, 326 GARs have been completed during the course of the 2018 WikiCup, so the backlog of articles awaiting GA review has been reduced as a result of contestants' activities. As we enter the third round, remember that any content promoted after the end of round 2 but before the start of round 3 can be claimed in round 3. Remember too that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them. When doing GARs, please make sure that you check that all the GA criteria are fully met; most of the GARs are fine, but a few have been a bit skimpy.
Glad to help, although I wish I was more knowledgeable about the subject :-). Good luck and all the best, Miniapolis17:17, 2 May 2018 (UTC)
WrestlingNews.co
I put WrestlingNews.co up for discussion on the sources talk page of the project which you can see here. Nobody has posted their thoughts on that site as of yet. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks. Mr. C.C.Hey yo!I didn't do it!23:50, 2 May 2018 (UTC)
Joe Perry
Good catch - that is how the BBC have reported it. But it really doesn't make much sense. How could a 2 hour delay to the draw cause chaos for Perry trying to book a hotel? I think the BBC must have misreported it. I'm guessing he was complaining about the draw being so close in time to the main event, rather than the irritating 2 hour delay on the day. --Dweller (talk) Become old fashioned!12:46, 3 May 2018 (UTC)
Dweller I believe he was referring to the fact he also had to wait two more hours to find out when and where he would be playing. It doesn't make all of the sense, as either you think you'll win the competition, and you'll book a hotel for the whole time, or you book just for your first round. However, that was the quote I found everywhere. I actually watched the draw, and it was really badly managed. Problem is, we can't put spin on their words, and report what was said. I'll have a look and see if I can come up with better wording or a better quote. Lee Vilenski(talk • contribs)13:02, 3 May 2018 (UTC)
Yeah I agree. We have to stick with it. My take was, booking your hotel room 2 hours earlier or later makes no difference to anyone. 2 weeks might. Can't see him reported on this anywhere else atm, so we're done. Cheers. --Dweller (talk) Become old fashioned!14:05, 3 May 2018 (UTC)
WrestleMania 2
Hello:
The copy edit that you requested from the Guild of Copy Editors of the article WrestleMania 2 has been completed.
I tried to figure out how to fix the gap between the Storyline heading and the text to no avail - sorry. That's the only outstanding item.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
Hi! I just skimmed over Wrestlemania 2 and I noticed there are several un-cited sentences/paragraphs in the article. I would recommend you make sure that there is no original research in the article before nominating the article for Good Article status. Given how long the backlog for GAN's currently is, it would be a shame to have this nomination in the queue for weeks/months and then have a reviewer instantly fail for it for original research.--Dom497 (talk) 17:11, 3 May 2018 (UTC)
Hi Dom497 - The waiting list for wrestling articles in general is very long (I reviewed an article last week that had been waiting almost a full year). It wasn't that bad, but I've fully referenced the article now. Thanks for the heads up. Lee Vilenski(talk • contribs)08:27, 4 May 2018 (UTC)
I was recently working on this page. did a lot but now that's left is sourcing. If you're interested, would you like to help me make this into B-class?Blue Pumpkin Pie (talk) 23:10, 2 May 2018 (UTC)
Blue Pumpkin Pie I took a look, it's the gameplay and reception settings that need referencing. I can take a look at improving the referencing, but the reception needs expansion. The bit about the iPhone reviews site needs to be removed, as it's user reviews, and can't be used, unless a reliable source brings it up. I also saw that the development section needs a bit more of an expansion, it's fine right now, but some references for release dates would be a good idea, and maybe why this iOS game has been ported to other systems would be good. Lee Vilenski(talk • contribs)07:44, 3 May 2018 (UTC)
I just gained some interest. I own it as a PlayStation minis. I never expanded a reception section before other than add the metacritics table. I also saw that iphone reference and thought it wasn't a good one. Glad we were in sync with that. I just added the development section. I copy-pasted the release dates to add more space. What's hard to find is the Edge Extended release dates. I know its released as DLC for steam but on other versions, I think their separate games. I don't know that for sure. SO i'll do more researchBlue Pumpkin Pie (talk) 18:01, 4 May 2018 (UTC)
Thanks. The problem with Edge/Edge extended, I'm having a hard time finding all the versions release dates. But thank you for helping me out. Edge deserves a little love.Blue Pumpkin Pie (talk) 19:40, 4 May 2018 (UTC)
I know the feeling. I'm always thinking of games or otherwise of things I remember from a few years ago, and check the Wikipedia page, and it's basically blank. That's always fun. I haven't played this game, but I'm happy to help. Lee Vilenski(talk • contribs)19:55, 4 May 2018 (UTC)

"Fails WP:FOOTY. Has not played a professional match" Hi. I am not writing an article about a professional football player, but professional football COACH. Don't see the relevance of your comment. Also, references are from biggest Slovenian media, so clearly reliable. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Alen90o (talk • contribs) 10:56, 5 May 2018 (UTC)
Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed! Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. The reason left by KJP1 was:
This submission's references do not adequately show the subject's notability. Wikipedia requires significant coverage (not just mere mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject—see the guidelines on the notability of people, the golden rule and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue. Please improve the submission's referencing (see Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners and Help:Introduction to referencing/1), so that the information is verifiable, and there is clear evidence of why the subject is notable and worthy of inclusion in an encyclopedia. If additional reliable sources cannot be found for the subject, then it may not be suitable for Wikipedia at this time.
The comment the reviewer left was:
Certainly notable, but the sourcing isn't currently showing it. Three are the subject's own works, and thus not independent; the fourth is just a TV listing. He's not well-covered online, but offline is fine, as long as the sources are reliable and independent.
Please check the submission for any additional comments left by the reviewer. You are encouraged to edit the submission to address the issues raised and resubmit when they have been resolved.
If you would like to continue working on the submission, go to Draft:William Arkle and click on the "Edit" tab at the top of the window.
If you now believe the draft cannot meet Wikipedia's standards or do not wish to progress it further, you may request deletion. Hi Blue Pumpkin Pie a few actually. Just got back from my holiday, so will keep it short, but the article doesn't have significant depth. I still need to update it for all Harry potter games, as quite a few are completely ignored in the reception section, etc. I also have a few GA nominees currently, so need them to do done first, or I'm spreading myself too thin. Lee Vilenski(talk • contribs)13:31, 17 May 2018 (UTC)
Lee Vilenski, just checking to see whether you'd be ready to resume work on the nomination if we find a new reviewer for it. (There was an attempt to ping you on the review page within the past day, but a typo prevented the ping from working.) Thanks! BlueMoonset (talk) 04:21, 18 May 2018 (UTC)
BlueMoonset - Hello! Yeah, this one has been a weird one. I'm more than willing to update the article, and have it reviewed again. Not really sure what happened with the reviewer before, he's always been really attentive before, but I know he's on semi-wiki retirement. I've been on holiday, and have only recently returned, so I'll take a look at the article again as soon as I can. Thank you for sorting this Lee Vilenski(talk • contribs)14:00, 18 May 2018 (UTC)
NPR Newsletter No.11 25 May 2018
Hello Lee Vilenski/Archives/2018, thank you for your work reviewing New Pages!
WP:ACREQ has been implemented. The flow at the feed has dropped back to the levels during the trial. However, the backlog is on the rise again so please consider reviewing a few extra articles each day; a backlog approaching 5,000 is still far too high. An effort is also needed to ensure that older unsuitable older pages at the back of the queue do not get automatically indexed for Google.
Deletion tags
Do bear in mind that articles in the feed showing the trash can icon may have been tagged by inexperienced or non NPR rights holders. They require your further verification.
Backlog drive:
A backlog drive will take place from 10 through 20 June. Check out our talk page at WT:NPR for more details. NOTE: It is extremely important that we focus on quality reviewing. Despite our goal of reducing the backlog as much as possible, please do not rush while reviewing.
Editathons
There will be a large increase in the number of editathons in June. Please be gentle with new pages that obviously come from good faith participants, especially articles from developing economies and ones about female subjects. Consider using the 'move to draft' tool rather than bluntly tagging articles that may have potential but which cannot yet reside in mainspace.
Paid editing - new policy
Now that ACTRIAL is ACREQ, please be sure to look for tell-tale signs of undisclosed paid editing. Contact the creator if appropriate, and submit the issue to WP:COIN if necessary. There is a new global WMF policy that requires paid editors to connect to their adverts.
Subject-specific notability guidelines
The box at the right contains each of the subject-specific notability guidelines, please review any that are relevant BEFORE nominating an article for deletion.
Reviewers are requested to familiarise themselves with the new version of the notability guidelines for organisations and companies.
Not English
A common issue: Pages not in English or poor, unattributed machine translations should not reside in main space even if they are stubs. Please ensure you are familiar with WP:NPPNE. Check in Google for the language and content, tag as required, then move to draft if they do have potential.
News
Development is underway by the WMF on upgrades to the New Pages Feed, in particular ORES features that will help to identify COPYVIOs, and more granular options for selecting articles to review.
The next issue of The Signpost has been published. The newspaper is one of the best ways to stay up to date with news and new developments. between our newsletters.
