- Nominator's rationale: Ok, now the merger has been carried out, I want to bring up deletion. I don't think this category of "Anarchists from Austria-Hungary" is a remotely defining characteristic for any of its entries, nor do I think it can be one. To go through the list: Luisa Landová-Štychová and Michael Kácha were Czech anarchists, involved in specifically Czech organisations both before and after the collapse of Austria-Hungary; Josef Peukert was from the German-speaking area of Bohemia and left Austria-Hungary to work in Germany at a young age, going on to spend the rest of his life in Britain and the United States; Hippolyte Havel probably comes the closest to having "anarchist from Austria-Hungary" as a defining characteristic, but even he spent most of his life and activist career in the United States, which he's far more known for than his origins.
To conclude, I don't think being an "anarchist from Austria-Hungary" is a remotely defining enough characteristic to constitute its own category. Each of its entries are already better categorised into different categories, whether "Czech anarchists", "Austrian anarchists" or "American anarchists". Unless I'm missing some pan-Austro-Hungarian anarchist movement that existed across national lines, I don't see any reason why this category shouldn't be deleted. - Comment Particularly on the question of the first two people mentioned, I guess this comes down to the fundamental question about whether categories with titles like "Czech anarchists" are defined by nationality or ethnicity. (I assume) Landová-Štychová and Kácha were ethnically Czech, but were never Czech citizens as the country didn't exist as an independent entity until the 1990s. Personally I would err on the side of defining membership of such categories as being based on nationality due to the potential for endless disputes about ethnicity (which means Landová-Štychová and Kácha should be categorised as Anarchists from Austria-Hungary and Anarchists from Czechoslovakia). Therefore leaning oppose, but this probably needs a much bigger discussion. Number 57 11:54, 26 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

- Oppose, while people may be categorized by ethnicity, that doesn't exclude them from categorizing by nationality. I am ok with moving people from Austro-Hungarian nationality to American nationality if the US is the country where they mainly were active as an anarchist. Either parent category is defining but gender does not appear to be relevant in this intersection, nor is it necessary to split an overlarge category. Intersection between gender and child soldiers is defining, as evident from the existence of a large body of literature specifically about female child soldiers, or with entire chapters dedicated specifically to female child soldiers, or which otherwise clearly treat female child soldiers as a defining intersectional category distinct from merely the overlap of child soldiers and female soldiers.
