The source does not have to be online to be verifiable. If you doubt whether the programme was copyrighted or not then you'll have to track down a paper copy and check, or look up in the US Copyright Office records. Agreed that "the source does not have to be online to be verifiable". Disagree that "lack of ease isn't grounds for deletion". The onus is upon the uploader to provide proof that the file uploaded is legitimately free. Absent this rule, anyone could upload any obscure image and declare it free regardless of whether that is the case or not. -FASTILY 01:44, 4 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

How do you prove a negative? The uploader may have done extensive research to establish that it isn't copyrighted but the only evidence is that there isn't anything to show that it is copyrighted e.g. no records in US Copyright Office archives. The file has been simplified below the threshold of originality. It is now a rounded square, diagonally bisected and again in the lower right. The lines and sections are colored and a white "G" appears upper left.
