Wikipedia for Educators at Fordham is hosting an October 22nd, 2019 to celebrate LGBTQ+ month. The Edit-a-thon will be held at Fordham University's Lincoln Center Campus in the South Lounge from 4-8pm, focusing on the theme of Music.
Please join us as we contribute to Wikipedia, writing and editing on the under-represented demographics of LGBTQ+ musicians and music. No experience with editing Wikipedia is required but please bring a laptop, if you have one. We will have a limited number of laptops available for those who don't have their own. We will start the edit-a-thon with a brief tutorial to cover the basics and experienced Wikipedians will be around to help out. The event will be held from 4pm to 8pm but you don't have to attend the entire event.
We also welcome any one who can speak a second language to translate existing articles on the topic.
Space is limited and refreshments will be served so please

Wikipedia is the seventh most visited website on earth (World Economic Forum), and the English language Wikipedia contains nearly 5.8 million articles.[7] (See the statistics page for more information.) It is the most used encyclopedia in history. Every day, thousands of people add or edit information in Wikipedia, yet there are gaps in its coverage. You can help fill those gaps.
Thanks for coming today and participating in the LGBTQ Music edit-a-thon to increase Wikipedia's coverage of LGBTQ Music related topics. Today's mission: Add at least one article, edit, image, or reference to Wikipedia.
1) First, click on the pencil icon on the right to begin using "Visual Editor". Visual editor makes editing easier - like writing a school paper.
2) In Visual Editor, click on the area you want to add the citation. Then click cite. If you have a website as a source, add the website to the blank area.
If you do not have a website source, click manual and follow the prompts. Then click publish. If you have questions, ask a Wikimedia coach or go to Wikipedia:Tutorial/Citing sources.
3) Then click publish.
