It was a succesful, enjoyable meetup. One topic discussed was the pending formation of a Pennsylvania chapter of the Wikimedia Foundation. A small group of participants who didn't want to go home continued to meet afterwards at the Independence brewpub. After Ike9898 was quoted by the Running Numbers column of the City Paper, we made sure to be good tippers.
As requested during the meetup, here are the Wikipedia-related xkcd pics:

From |
Take exit 22 from I-95 (north or south), and follow signs for I-676 East / Ben Franklin Bridge / Callowhill St. From Callowhill St, go several blocks to 8th St and make a left. At the 4th light, make a right onto Arch St, and then another right onto 9th St. The restaurant is about a 1/4 block north of Arch St.
From | / Ben Franklin Bridge |
Get in the left lane after the end of the bridge, and follow signs for 8th Street / Chinatown. You will come to a traffic light at 7th St, after which you will yield onto 8th St south. At the 3rd light, make a right onto Arch St, and then another right onto 9th St. The restaurant is about a 1/4 block north of Arch St.
From | (Schuylkill Expressway) | via | (Vine Street Expresway) |
Take I-676 east to the exit for 8th Street / Chinatown (located right before the bridge exit), and make a right onto 8th St south. At the 3rd light, make a right onto Arch St, and then another right onto 9th St. The restaurant is about a 1/4 block north of Arch St.
Parking
There are many parking lots and garages within a couple square blocks of the restaurant, however it is quite expensive. Metered parking is available (25 cents for 15 mins, I believe), but is very limited. The best place to find a metered space at the time will be is front of the convention center on Arch St, between 11th and 12th Sts.
From within Philadelphia
The easiest way to get to the restaurant is by public transportation via the Market-Frankford Line to 8th St Station, which is three blocks from the restaurant. From the station, walk one block west on Market to 9th St, then walk two blocks north, and the restaurant is located right after Arch St.
Alternatively, you may take SEPTA bus routes 47 or 61, both which stop at 9th and Market.
From New Jersey
The PATCO Speedline travels from South Jersey to Philly and stops at the 8th & Market Station, which is three blocks from the restaurant. From the station, walk one block west on Market to 9th St, then walk two blocks north, and the restaurant is located right after Arch St.
Alternatively, you may take any of the following NJ Transit bus routes (313,315,317,400,401,402,403,404,405,406,407,408,409,410,412,413,419,551), all of which stop at 9th and Market.
If you have any questions regarding directions or transportation to the restaurant, please leave a message on my talk page and I will get back with you. –Dream out loud (talk)
You're invited to the
Philadelphia-area Wikipedia Meetup
Sunday July 8, 2007
Time: 5:00 pm
Location: It will be in Center City, Philadelphia at 112 North 9th Street Philadelphia, PA 19107.
Tel: (215) 829-8939
I think when the event is getting closer and it time to advertise, we should reach out to a wider geographical area. Maybe we can identify users in Wilmington and South Jersey. ike9898 17:46, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
This is pretty much the invite list used for the last meetup. It was not compiled in any really systematic way and is certainly not a complete list of users from this region. It would probably be worthwhile to attempt to expand it. Can you take on this challenge??
If you don't want to receive future mailings about Philadelphia meetups, add your name below.
Please list your name below your preferred date. If you want to help find one date that works for almost everyone, please list all the dates you could attend.

June 10 For those who want to have the event on June 10th, you might be interested to know that it is the same date as the gay pride parade. Center City could be difficult to navigate. --Runnerupnj 11:33, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
There was a little problem with the voting here; if a person edited this page and wrote their name below the line that said "<!-- Sign your name below here if you vote for July 15. Please put your name on a new line, beginning with a # sign. -->", then their vote appears below July 8th in the table. Looking at the page history it is hard to be 100% sure of the actual intention of each voter. C'est la vie. Unless there are objections the vote is closed and the date chosen is Sunday, July 15. -- Unsigned crazy note by ike9898.
I object! Let me get this straight -- we have a handful of Wikipedians who couldn't hit "Save" and note where their choices came up, then someone unilaterally says, "It was confusing, so I'm making the votes for July 15th." That doesn't sound very C'est la vie to me. It sounds more like Palm Beach County during the 2000 presidential election. The cell with the most votes is July 8th. Unless there are further objections, the vote is closed and the date chosen is Sunday, July 8. --SpiralingMusic 03:56, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
How about this for an idea -- screw the table, and let's just have a quick final run-off vote here (in-line text) among those people who ever voted on this page. Voting closes on May 27, and I will notify all applicable users on their Talk pages.

If you want good attendance, the meetup must be easily accessible by car, preferably from I-95. The last one in center city was not. Raul654 20:26, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
My vote for "Suburbs" applies to the western suburbs (Bala, Media, King of Prussia, West Chester, Villanova, etc.). If the decision is for the northern or northeastern suburbs (Willow Grove, Bristol, New Hope, etc.), that's worse for me than downtown Philly. --SpiralingMusic 14:16, 1 May 2007 (UTC)
