KnowledgeOfSelf (talk · contribs) – Steve has been here three months, during which he has done plenty of good work. I see him regularly on RC patrol, where he often beats me to the revert (despite my "rollback" button!). He has well over 2000 edits, with lots of user interaction, involvement in AfD, and participation in other project namespace areas. Excellent use of edit summaries, and he is always polite and even tempered. Time to give him the mop. Owen× 03:03, 24 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Candidate, please indicate acceptance of the nomination here: I graciously accept. KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 03:52, 24 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Questions for the candidate
A few generic questions to provide guidance for voters:

1. What sysop chores, if any, would you anticipate helping with? Please check out Category:Wikipedia backlog, and read the page about administrators and the administrators' reading list.
A. I really enjoy RC patrol and New pages patrol, so having the rollback function would be extremely helpful. I would also like having the ability to block persistant vandals, or to block usernames that are obscene. I check WP:AIAV quite often and when I see a lot of vandals listed I try and find an administrator, to help remove and block the vandals that are still at it. I have welcomed new users, and try to be as helpful as I can possibly be. I would also anticipate helping to close AfD's, once I have efficiently understood the policy on deleting pages.
2. Of your articles or contributions to Wikipedia, are there any about which you are particularly pleased, and why?
A. An article that I am pleased with is the 2003 NFL Draft. I know it is far from perfect, but I liked the work I had to put into it. An other article I am pleased with is Ursula Rucker, which started out as an article that had only 4 words, as shown here, I've now expanded this article to this!, the article has been further advanced and improved to this I think the article I am most pleased with is Things Fall Apart (album) which is an album by The Roots. The reason I am very pleased with this article is because It was the first real article I created. I have also had the pleasure of watching this article grow with the assistance of other users and anons, from just a short intro about the album and a track listing, into a what I think constitutes as a standard album article here on wikipedia. The point is watching that article grow from nothing into something is what I think part of the spirit of wikipedia is about.
3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
A. Fortunately, I have not been in any conflicts, though I like to believe I have defused a few from starting. I think everyone has had stress on Wikipedia at one point or an other. The way I have dealt with it is, the same way I try to deal with stress outside of Wikipedia, and that's to keep a cool head, and try to think of my actions and the actions of others from a logical perspective. I also deal with stress with jokes and humor, and I try to spread that around as much as possible.
4. What are your opinions of the current protection policy, including use of the new semi-protection class? (added by xaosflux Talk/CVU)
A. I believe that the current protection policy works, for the most part. Whenever an article most notably George W. Bush was being attacked at a high speed I would get frustrated by the number of reverts that had to be made by many users, and the lack of page protection. After discussing with a couple admins they helped me to understand that protecting a page is a last resort only. My opinion on semi-protection is that it helps with the vandalism to prolific articles. Once given the time to develop, and once users understand when to request semi-protection, and when to apply it, I believe that it will be a very useful feature on Wikipedia. I also believe that the semi-protection policy, has a few "kinks", but I trust that they will be remedied in the near future.
