User:Ssyublyn is currently engaged in an edit war on Korea Train Express, and I just began to draft an RfC/U. I was led to suspect that Ssyublyn is a sockpuppet for a banned user when I tried to check on two strange circumstances:

• User:Ssyublyn made numerous (and misleading) references to Wikipedia Policies relating to edit conflicts, and used advanced formatting, as if he had great experience in edit warring -- however, he created his user page and made his first edit on 20 September 2010 only (WP:PREC).
• In the Talk page disputes paralleling the edit war, User:Ssyublyn accused two other users of bad faith on the basis of their Japanese nationality/ethnicity, which he claimed knowledge of without evidence. Since for one of the accused, User:Jpatokal, that doesn't follow from the info on the user page, I thought Ssyublyn recalls a prior conflict on the Talk pages of another article. But, again, his only significant other contribution was another Japanese-Korean edit warring with a third user in the Kowtow article.

Reading Talk:Kowtow, I noticed that in multiple sections, User:Jpatokal was involved in an exchange over the very same subject, in particular with a User:Manacpowers (WP:IDART), who also displayed many of the same behaviors and stylistic marks as shown by User:Ssyublyn in the present disputes:

• the treatment of issues as a matter of national prestige (WP:SIM);
• categorical re-statement of earlier claims without reacting to counter-arguments (WP:SIM);
• repetitive statement of the same points in the same long-winded Talk entry (WP:SIM);
• excessive bolding (WP:SIM);
• messed-up threading by inconsistent indenting of Talk entries (I tried to correct this in the current dispute) (WP:SIM);
• frequent lack of/erroneous verb conjugation (example: hard to says, I did not says, is not says by Manacpowers; We says, we says, you wasny says by Ssyublyn) (WP:SOCKERR);
• frequent confusion of singular and plural (WP:SOCKERR);
• putting words in his detractors' mouths (examples by Manacpowers, by Ssyublyn) (WP:SIM).

User:Manacpowers was apparently banned for sockpuppetry, the user page sends to Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Case/4.23.83.100 for relevant evidence. Thus I strongly suspect that the new edit war is a spillover from the old edit war, initiated by the same banned user.

As also explained in my update there, the privacy issue arose from my misinterpretation of the ban notice on User:Manacpowers's userpage, which I corrected in this re-submission. Although said ban notice links to an SPI request that gave an IP as puppetmaster and also named a dozen potential sockpuppets, the clerks identified User:Manacpowers only with three other named users (the reason for the ban if I am reading it right) -- and also identified at least two other, different puppeteers behind the suspected socks. --Rontombontom (talk) 14:41, 29 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Last September a User:Ssyublyn engaged in edit wars in Kowtow and Korea Train Express, but was banned after identification by duck test with banned User:Manacpowers, who engaged in edit wars in the same articles two years earlier. Now a User:VeritableTruth appeared, who edit-wars with me in the same section of Korea Train Express which Ssyulblyn edit-warred over, by adding text with the same tendentiousness as Ssyulblyn used to, and (edit) then removing the entire story (WP:IDART). In addition to this, VeritableTruth's short edit history consists of contentious edits and short edit warring in the articles Dog meat consumption in South Korea (removal of sourced content) and Nexus S (again removal of sourced content).

More specific similarities:

• the treatment of issues as a matter of national prestige (WP:SIM; the Korean angle in Nexus S: the device with the bug VeritableTruth removed is made by Samsung);
• repetitive statement of the same points in the same long-winded Talk entry, messed-up threading by inconsistent indenting of Talk entries, excessive bolding (WP:SIM; for all three, compare Ssyulblyn example on my Discussion page, VeritableTruth example on another user Discussion page);
• fixation on reducing accident causes to "Human error" to explain accident cause (WP:SIM; compare several Ssyulblyn examples on Korea Train Express Discussion page and again on my Discussion page, VeritableTruth example);
• (misleading) references to Wikipedia Policies relating to edit conflicts in the first Discussion page comments in spite of being a newly registered user (WP:PREC; example for VeritableTruth only again here)
• confusion of singular and plural (WP:SOCKERR).
• (edit) after this and this, I can add the "categorical re-statement of earlier claims without reacting to counter-arguments" similarity from the Ssyublyn/Manacpowers SPI.

I note that I strongly suspect that in the two years between Manacpowers and Ssyublyn, the user returned under several other aliases, including User:Ziggymaster, who also engaged in edit warring at Korea Train Express (see removal of sourced content 1, 2), and was also banned for sockpuppetry. I put it together in advance expecting an edit war as last time, but held it back in doubt while attempting to engage in discussion. But, like last time, I get strange not on point replies like this.
