Articles related to Chile needs to have a rating on the quality scale and importance. I propose that in this section we should vote for the importance and quality Chile-related articles. Please read the articles before voting and read about the quality scale and importance below in this page.
Note: This quality scale is identical the one in WikiProject Argentina, if you think this WikiProject Chile could have a better scale please write about it in the discussion page.
Pages progress grading scheme | |
---|---|
Featured article | Reserved exclusively for articles that have received "Featured article" status after peer review. Articles are placed in Category:FA-Class Chilean articles. |
A | The article provides a well-written and complete description of the topic, as described in How to write a Great Article. It includes a complete article and an appropriate series of headings to break up the article. It should have sufficient external reliable references, and properly illustrated. It should be at the stage where it could at least be considered for featured article status. Articles are placed in Category:A-Class Chilean articles. |
GA | Reserved exclusively for articles that have received Good Article status after peer review. Articles are placed in Category:GA-Class Chilean articles. |
B | The article is "almost there" but it may be missing secondary information and details. Alternatively, the English may need a comprehensive rewrite to make it flow. Articles are placed in Category:B-Class Chilean articles. |
Start | The article has a good amount of content, but it is still weak in certain areas. Articles are placed in Category:Start-Class Chilean articles. |
Stub | The article is either a very short article or a stub that will need a lot of work to bring it to A-Class level, although there may be a significant amount of material in the article. Articles are placed in Category:Stub-Class Chilean articles. |
Needed | The article does not exist and needs to be created. Articles are listed in Category:Needed Chilean articles. |
For further details, see Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Assessment.
Note: This importance scale is identical the one in WikiProject Argentina, if you think this WikiProject Chile could have a better scale please write about it in the discussion page.
There are 4 grades for importance as defined in the WikiProject Chile article's importance. Please note that the importance of an article is independent from its quality.

I think it's time for moving the project to its definitive location. Jespinos 01:42, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
How do we add articles to Needed Chilean articles if such page doesn't exist? Any guidelines? Should we move the "Requests" list from the Wikipedia:Chile-related regional notice board to this new category? Can I just go around searching for very small articles and tags them as Chile-stub (or specifics Chile-bio-stub/Chile-geo-stub)? Is this kind of behavior correct? Kilroytech 20:49, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
I have literally thousands of hi-res (3000x2008) pictures taken by me which I'd gladly upload if anyone requests a copy of one of them for a specific article, as there are so many I'd like to expose the link where I have them posted, feel free to request from amongst them, they are at Flickr. NOTE: Some of them are from other countries where I've been, but those are just a few compared to Chilean ones, most are from either Magallanes or Santiago and its surroundings, including Torres del Paine, Puerto Williams, Antarctica, Punta Arenas, Parral, Rancagua, and many central Andes Mountains such as Pochoco, La Cruz, Manquehue, Provincia and El Morado. Kilroytech 20:55, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
After a while of participating in Wikipedia, I think there are a bunch of tools which may be useful for of Chile Project, mostly bots, but as I'm absolutely clueless about them (which do exist, and where can I add new bots), is that I raise this issue as a public matter of discussion, trying to improve our "performance" ;)
We should have some "article size bot", and "missing articles bot", attached either to categories or to an article list, the first one will tel us which are the least developed articles and the later would give us information about which articles we should create, I think this will really help us. Are bots for this already in Wikipedia? If not, where can I attach a self-made one? Are there any tutorials about it? If not needed, is there any particular Wikipedia function that solves any of these issues?
About categories: can categories be hierarchically related? i.e. parent categories list articles included in child categories. Can one create such a category tree? For example we could create a branch like this: Chile => Magallanes Region => Geography of Magallanes Region, similar examples with, flora & fauna are possible, and other themes like those, this hierarchies could be particularly helpful when finding relates articles while doing the revision process.
I suggest that we should also be very thorough at coordinate templates use, I have an Excel file from NIMA (US National Imagery and Mapping Agency) with all the places they have about Chile, it included both name and coordinates, as well as some other extra information that I've never used. This file was created by me using public data downloadable from NIMA's web site, so I think we could share it to use it as a basis for our work.
I'm not sure if you've all noticed, there's a discussion on the current naming convention at Wikipedia talk:Chile-related regional notice board#Settlement naming conventions' Change Proposal. --Scott Davis Talk 08:56, 28 April 2007 (UTC)
You may wish to add nesting capability (see {{WikiProjectBannerShell}}) to your project's talk page banner. This allows banners to be hidden and, hence, the TOC to be closer to the top of the talk page when an article is within the scope of several WikiProjects. In particular, there is a lot of overlap in the articles of Category:Chilean cuisine. --GentlemanGhost 12:55, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
Hello all. The Osorno, Chile article awaits review! I have been working on the article for some time now, and I think I have done as much as I can for a non-Chilean, non-Spanish speaker who has never been there. Most of the article is translated from the original Spanish [1], and I think it is pretty good, except it needs citations. Would anyone know where to find these, and how much of it needs it? Thank you! Korossyl 17:26, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
I've just recently discovered an article which, in my opinion, is an excellent example of what an article about a place should be: Sale, Greater Manchester. If we can bring most articles about Chilean topics (places especially) even half-way as good as this one, we will have done a job to be proud of. --JAXHERE | Talk 16:31, 4 July 2007 (UTC)
I have created the following two Barnstars for the use of Wikiproject:Chile. What do you think? I like the one with the plain background on the right. Korossyl 20:21, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
I did a little work on Cautín Province last night, mostly making links. How does it look to you? I believe the article needs a bit of polish. Brian Pearson 00:27, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
Hi all! I just joined the project as I'm interested in contributing (I'm part Chilean) and took the liberty of creating a new project banner based off of the banner I created for Wikipedia:WikiProject Greece - {{WPGR}}. The new banner is located here: User:Kimon/WPChile. I don't want to modify the project's banner before obtaining the membership's consensus. Let me know. --Kimontalk 20:34, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
It looks like this is a pretty small/dormant project. We only have 8 participants and it's not very clear how many of them are active. I propose starting an outreach project by inviting Wikipedians who identify themselves are Chilean, of Chilean origin or living in Chile. We can approach the users listed in the categories Category:Chilean Wikipedians and Category:Wikipedians in Chile. I've created an invitation template to be used for just this purpose here: {{WPChileInvite}}. --Kimontalk 17:56, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
I've requested from Andrew Hampe to create an ad for {{Wikipedia ads}} in order to recruit more people for this project. I'll post updates here as I get them. --Kimontalk 13:59, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
Hi! A vigorous - and now somewhat nasty - debate has emerged over the article Chilean Australian over the size of the Chilean-Australian population. The sole protagonists are myself and User:TeePee-20.7, and much of the discussion is on Talk:Chilean Australian.
TeePee is referring to an essay, written by a student intern and published on the website of the Chilean Embassy in Australia, that details the history of the Chilean-Australian population. Much of the article is quite informative and reasonably well written. However she estimates the Chilean-Australian population to be 45,000 without explaining how she arrived at this number.
In other articles that look at ethnic groups in Australia, Australian Bureau of Statistics 2006 Census data is used to present the number of persons (a) born in a particular country, and (b) declare to have ancestry to a particular country (either alone or in combination with one other ancestry).
TeePee is strongly opposed to using this data, and instead insists on solely referring to the essay reference. I do not think the essay's estimate is accurate.
There is one limitation to the ABS data - somebody who has a Chilean ancestry might only choose to declare themselves according to their new Australian identity, or their European heritage. However I have included a caveat which draws attention to this minor flaw, as well as a statistic on how Chilean-born Australians defined their ancestral backgrounds in 2001.
I believe this version should be used.
TeePee has adopted a highly aggressive posture (and has been previously blocked), and has claimed I do not adequately cite references (even though six out of the seven references in the version above go to my ABS sources). No amount of compriming, humouring, reasoning or exercising of a time-out has worked. Wikipedia would benefit from a third party opinion on this page.
And by all means, seek his side of the story. Kransky (talk) 10:33, 14 May 2008 (UTC)
1st point: True
2nd point: False, very vaguely True - I am not referring to the essay written by the intern who was at the Chilean Embassy. I am referring to the data published by the Chilean Embassy on their website! There is no indication that the intern provided this information as she is not credited to it on the page but Kransky fails to fathom this.
3rd point: True
4th point: False - This is completely false and once again Kransky is lying! If you read the discussions between us you will be able to see this and infact you can even certify that the data has been used so once again Kransky has chosen to act inappropriately and lie once more.
5th point: True - This one took him a while. I had to tell him this because he could not comprehend it before hand but then he adds the caveat trying to shut me up hoping I would not revert his edit where he sneaked in unreferenced information which he has constantly been doing. Only he is not able to comprehend that just because you're Chilean doesn't mean you will put down your ancestory as Chilean as Latinos in general are very multiracial and might wish to put down European, Native American or even specific countries such as Germany in which to indentify as their ancestory.
I believe the current version as of 20:41, 12 May 2008 should be used.
Once again he is disparaging me and behaving inappropriately. I will not even attempt to put into words the patients I have displayed with him you can see this when you intervine in our dispute.
Thankyou for your time and I hope we aren't too much of a burden on you. TeePee-20.7 (talk) 16:05, 14 May 2008 (UTC)
As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.
Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.
Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. This scheme should allow the team to start producing offline selections for your project and the wider community within the next year. Thanks for using the Wikipedia 1.0 scheme! For the 1.0 Editorial Team, §hepBot (Disable) 22:08, 4 July 2008 (UTC)
Currently, 734 articles are assigned to this project, of which 138, or 18.8%, are flagged for cleanup of some sort. (Data as of 14 July 2008.) Are you interested in finding out more? I am offering to generate cleanup to-do lists on a project or work group level. See User:B. Wolterding/Cleanup listings for details. More than 150 projects and work groups have already subscribed, and adding a subscription for yours is easy - just place the following template on your project page:

Wikipedia 0.7 is a collection of English Wikipedia articles due to be released on DVD, and available for free download, later this year. The Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team has made an automated selection of articles for Version 0.7.
We would like to ask you to review the articles selected from this project. These were chosen from the articles with this project's talk page tag, based on the rated importance and quality. If there are any specific articles that should be removed, please let us know at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.7. You can also nominate additional articles for release, following the procedure at Wikipedia:Release Version Nominations.
A list of selected articles with cleanup tags, sorted by project, is available. The list is automatically updated each hour when it is loaded. Please try to fix any urgent problems in the selected articles. A team of copyeditors has agreed to help with copyediting requests, although you should try to fix simple issues on your own if possible.
We would also appreciate your help in identifying the version of each article that you think we should use, to help avoid vandalism or POV issues. These versions can be recorded at this project's subpage of User:SelectionBot/0.7. We are planning to release the selection for the holiday season, so we ask you to select the revisions before October 20. At that time, we will use an automatic process to identify which version of each article to release, if no version has been manually selected. Thanks! Hi! I'd like to draw your attention to the new WikiProject coordinators' working group, an effort to bring both official and unofficial WikiProject coordinators together so that the projects can more easily develop consensus and collaborate. This group has been created after discussion regarding possible changes to the A-Class review system, and that may be one of the first things discussed by interested coordinators.
All designated project coordinators are invited to join this working group. If your project hasn't formally designated any editors as coordinators, but you are someone who regularly deals with coordination tasks in the project, please feel free to join as well. — Delievered by §hepBot (Disable) on behalf of the WikiProject coordinators' working group at 05:06, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.
If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none
parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Your alert page should be located at "Wikipedia:PROJECT-OR-TASKFORCE-HOMEPAGE/Article alerts". Questions and feedback should be left at Wikipedia talk:Article alerts.
Message sent by User:Addbot to all active wiki projects per request, Comments on the message and bot are welcome here.

This article needs some work. I think this race is probably notable (using Spanish-language media articles), but I did not find anything in English using Google News Archive search that meets the requirements of Wikipedia:Notability#General notability guideline other than this one article in a small-town newspaper. I don't read Spanish, so I can't check the other media references.
Links to the race's website were widely spammed across multiple Wikipedias resulting in its URL being blacklisting:
We now have a request to "whitelist" the link on this Wikipedia:
If the article is worth keeping, we should probably whitelist the link; otherwise given its history, we should probably keep it blacklisted.
Can someone look at this article and see what you think?

Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.
We would like to ask you to review the Chile articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. If you believe we have included or excluded articles inappropriately, please contact us at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8 with the details. You may wish to look at your WikiProject's articles with cleanup tags and try to improve any that need work; if you do, please give us the new revisionID at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8. We would like to complete this consultation period by midnight UTC on Monday, October 11th.
We have greatly streamlined the process since the Version 0.7 release, so we aim to have the collection ready for distribution by the end of October, 2010. As a result, we are planning to distribute the collection much more widely, while continuing to work with groups such as One Laptop per Child and Wikipedia for Schools to extend the reach of Wikipedia worldwide. Please help us, with your WikiProject's feedback!

The article on Chilean anthropologist, Wladimir Cárcamo Soto has been tagged as an unreferenced biography of a living person since November 2008, which is the current focus month for the BLP Rescue Project. I have tried, and failed, to find reliable third party references to support the text in the article, so am posting here in the hope that someone with better knowledge of the field might like to take an interest and provide at least one source.--Plad2 (talk) 20:25, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
I do not know if this individual is notable within the region for more then being a rescuer during the 2010 Copiapó mining accident. I stumbled across this article while searching for a more generic term and I personally never considered making an article about him. I am just bringing this to your attention in case he is more notable. Cheers, Veriss (talk) 16:51, 29 October 2010 (UTC)

O.K., I guess it may be too late but if someone is interested, here it is. Tomorrow January 15th, Wikipedia will be celebrating 10 years. Probably, most of you already know that. The Chilean community of Wikipedians will be celebrating it in three different places: this Saturday in Santiago, on Sunday in Viña del Mar and next Saturday 29th in Concepción. It will be great if people from the English Wikipedia can come... after all, we are the same community :).
You can read about the meetings in Spanish Wikipedia (I don't have the translations, sorry) here. If you don't understand Spanish or you want to ask something special, don't worry... send us an e-mail to contacto@wikimediachile.cl and we'll be very pleased to explain everything in any language (well... in all the languages we know).
Also, I would like to invite you to be a part of the future Chilean local chapter of the Wikimedia Foundation. If you want to be a part of us, send as an e-mail also... Thanks a lot and good luck --B1mbo (talk) 04:25, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

Hello. Last year I uploaded on Commons a photo made in the Leeuwarden, the Netherlands, in 1987; you can see it here. On the right side of the mural we see what I believe to be a Chilean flag and two persons (one of them with a Bible, so probably a clergic) that might have to do with Chilean history (left of the sun there's someone bearing the flag of Friesland, the Dutch province of which Leeuwarden is the capital). Does anyone know who the depicted Chilean men are? Regards, Apdency (talk) 11:40, 19 August 2011 (UTC)

Many years ago I got an MA in Latin American Area Studies, and Chilean history was my area of interest. At that time I read somewhere that Balmaceda's last words were, "There are two kinds of problems in the world. Those that solve themselves and those that have no solution." I probably picked this up from an obscure history book, in either English or Spanish, and I foolishly forgot the citation. anyone out there know if this is true or if there is a citation for it?
