San Antonio station is a Caltrain commuter rail station located in Mountain View, California. The station has two side platforms serving the two tracks of the Peninsula Subdivision, with a pedestrian tunnel at the south end.
The station opened in April 1999[3] to replace the Castro station, which was located 0.8 miles (1.3 km) to the south at Rengstorff Ave.
Rengstorff grade crossing project
[edit]A hybrid grade-separation project has been proposed for the existing at-grade crossing at Rengstorff, approximately 3,000 ft (910 m) east-southeast of the San Antonio station: the intersection of Rengstorff and Central will be depressed, while the Peninsula Corridor rail line would be elevated, similar in concept and execution to earlier grade-separation projects completed near the Hillsdale, Belmont, and San Carlos stations. Three preliminary concepts for the grade separation were evaluated in 2014, each of which used the hybrid road depression/rail elevation design and added a pedestrian bridge over Rengstorff, south of the rail line.[4]
The City of Mountain View conducted a Preliminary Engineering and Environmental Clearance study, which was scheduled for completion in January 2022. Following that study, the final design would be performed and construction would start no earlier than 2025, pending funds.[5]
