Taking Out the Trash, I'm writing about the unreferenced tag on the "Guardian of the Wilderness" fledgling Stub article I wrote in the past couple of days. In immediate response to the tag, I inserted two strategically good inline references for the article along with a Bibliography of the film's leading character's books (the movie is based on the true story of the fellow who originally arranged for the Yosemite giant sequoias to be spared from being logged and destroyed, opening the door for the National Park Service to be eventually created in its wake and writing a library of his own books as well). If you get a chance, please take another look at the article; it's still a brief one but my experience has always been that once that seed is planted, articles usually gradually grow in intermittent leaps and bounds, with numerous editors pitching in, myself included. If you think the references are now sufficient at the moment for the article's current length, perhaps you'll choose to remove the tag. It's up to you. Sorry for the late response, as long as the article has at least one reference, the unreferenced tag can be removed by you or anyone else. There are other tags/categories for dealing with unreliable sources... it doesn't matter what the sources are (within reason) as long as there is at least one, for the unreferenced tag to be removed. Got six or seven references now and a lot of other information as well; the article about that offbeat little movie has grown fairly quickly. A bot switched out the template for the one requesting more references the day after my last message. Hey, just wanted to note that if you are planning on doing a lot of NPP work, you may want to request a username change, as editors whose article's you review (and particularly in the case of articles you nominate for deletion) may misinterpret your username as referring to their articles as trash. _signed, Rosguill ^talk 18:03, 15 January 2023 (UTC)

Well, in some cases, articles that are tagged for deletion are indeed trash. But all joking aside, are users who have signed the global NDA even eligible for a rename, without messing up the nonpublic information records/noticeboard etc? I had signed the NDA a while back with the intention of getting involved at WP:ACC, but I never received a confirmation email to my initial registration, so I don't know what's going on there. (edit conflict) Well, for starters, if you are the subject or are a close relative/friend of the subject, you have a conflict of interest and shouldn't be editing that page directly. Secondly, Wikipedia is not a resume or the place to promote people or ideas. The text you added read exactly like a resume that would be found as part of a job application, which is inappropriate for Wikipedia. Please see your talk page for more information. Make an edit request on the talk page, providing citations to reliable sources to support your changes. Also make sure your changes are written in an encyclopedic tone, as I noted above, the version I reverted read exactly like a promotional resume. I also noticed that yesterday, between 21:16 and 21:22 UTC, you marked 21 articles and 1 disambiguation page as reviewed. I appreciate the effort, but this is not enough time to be properly reviewing articles, so please try to slow it down and be a little more thorough. I marked it as reviewed because I had reviewed the page, applied tags as I felt necessary, and didn't feel that it warranted draftification or deletion. I understand and respect that different reviewers might have different personal standards as to what should be draftified/deleted and what shouldn't. The topic clearly seemed notable and to me, the only issues I saw were the poor layout and the fact that all three of the citations appeared to be self-published. Those two issues alone, IMO, aren't sufficient to warrant draftifying or deleting, though again, I understand that others may disagree, which is perfectly fine - I take no offense if someone else feels that a different action should be taken. Tagging a page doesn't mean we should always mark it as reviewed. Do you use Discord at all? I started a discussion on the page there with other NPP reviewers and the consensus was that it should not have been marked as reviewed. I think it'd be beneficial for you to be able to join in on conversations that we have there.

Regardless, those 21 articles in 6 minutes was much too fast to be performing the proper due dilligence. There was another article that was found by another member of the NPP and deleted as an obvious copyvio. Hey man im josh (talk) 19:09, 3 February 2023 (UTC)

I thought that we can mark pages as reviewed after they've been, y'know, reviewed. I didn't think that marking as reviewed was reserved only for "perfect" pages that don't need any work to be brought up to full mainspace standards. The number of completely perfect pages is probably around zero anyway. My general algorithm is to first check that a page isn't blatantly inappropriate (likely meeting one or more CSD criteria), isn't an unsourced BLP (sticky PROD), and isn't an obviously incomplete work (draftify). Assuming none of those three conditions are met, I then check to make sure that the article subject is likely to be notable, and that the page is properly referenced, categorized, and structured. Once I'm satisfied that the page is either referenced, categorized, and structured appropriately, or alternatively has been properly tagged for cleanup/maintenance, I mark it as reviewed, since at that point it has indeed been reviewed.

I didn't see any pages that were flagged for copyvio, and I've never, ever, seen a false negative from CopyPatrol (if anything, CP tends to generate false positives with freely licensed material or sometimes even bibliographies). If I see something flagged as copyvio, I always check to see whether it actually is, and if it is, will then assess what the proper course of action is (whether to G12 it, or tag it with either {{copypaste}} or {{close paraphrasing}}, assuming that it hasn't already been checked by one of the copyvio-savvy admins).

No, I don't use Discord, and honestly don't have a clue how to use it. I only use IRC on occasion, and even then usually only for urgent admin matters, not just for general chitchat. Taking Out The Trash (talk) 20:54, 3 February 2023 (UTC)

Hello friend. Part of becoming good at NPP is taking feedback from experienced reviewers into account and using that to calibrate. Hey man im josh has pointed out two reasonable things you could do to improve your reviewing and bring it more in line with best practices: 1) take a bit more time per review (clicking open every source and evaluating it for GNG usually takes some time), and 2) draftifying articles that have no citations. In the case of the draft above, it has 3 citations, but they are not independent, and they are not supporting any of the prose. And the article is a BLP on top of that. While it doesn't fit neatly into the "zero sources = draftification" best practice, I think that the BLP + sources aren't independent + the prose has zero citations makes draftification the correct result there. I have not tried to offend anyone, though apparently I have yet to learn how to use Wikipedia language or pages (complaints, e.g.?) to defend myself against a flood of unfair accusations, which almost feels like I am facing a conspiracy. No, unfortunately I don't know who it is. It's clearly some LTA. I recall a particular WMF banned user who would randomly launch semi automated BLP vandalism attacks like this, but I can't put my finger on the name. Taking Out The Trash (talk) 03:56, 18 March 2023 (UTC)

Only reason why I was asking was if there's any info page about it like on Wikipedia:Long term abuse for example. That LTA page has about 150 or so reports plus at least 25 pending review, which is a lot of them to sift through to find the one that matches the case here. If you're going to remove large swaths of content, you need to provide a detailed reasoning in the edit summary as to why you are removing the content. It just seems rather... absurd. The video doesn't even seem like it would be physically possible at some specific points. I'm open to being convinced otherwise, but at first glance this appears to at least be exaggerated, if not a hoax.
