The result of the discussion was: delete. HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 22:23, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Delete per WP:TRIVIALCAT. The category is a three-way intersection between an occupation/honorary status, nationality, and centenarians. Omnis Scientia (talk) 18:30, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Delete as a non-defining intersection.--User:Namiba 20:00, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete, trivial intersection. Marcocapelle (talk) 22:11, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • The Free Encyclopedia right, unless someone decides they find your list not worthy of certain standards of which they created in their own head. My opinion is that this list represents a combination of remarkable longevity and service. The "American Military Veteran Centenarians" category showcases individuals who have achieved extraordinary longevity while having witnessed and survived both combat and significant historical events. Their lives represent a rare and exceptional intersection of resilience, history, and personal endurance. Keeping this category preserves the opportunity to study and honor those who have experienced both the trials of combat and the achievement of centenarian status. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82298NATE (talkcontribs) 04:46, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: rename to Category:National highways of China (in other words, decapitalize). HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 22:28, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: The scope of the category covers national highways of (belonging to) China, rather than those physically located in China, as evidenced by the member article China National Highway 228 (Taiwan), which is outside the area of China's de facto jurisdiction. Neutral on whether to also decapitalise, i.e. Category:National highways of China. Paul_012 (talk) 04:35, 1 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Relisting comment: Decapitalize?

Relisting comment: Same question: Capitalize? Two excellent arguments have been presented for each outcome…

The result of the discussion was: delete. HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 02:52, 31 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Contains only 4 articles, does not aid navigation. All articles are already in the appropriate subcategories so a merge is not needed. User:Namiba 14:21, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Delete per nom. Omnis Scientia (talk) 22:13, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Neutral Either the articles should lose the parent county level cat (added today by User:Namiba ?) or the town level cat should be deleted. dm (talk) 00:29, 24 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
BTW - thanks for the nudge, it appears there is a Lenox Historical Society with a museum in town that does not have an entry yet. I'll try to create it later tonight, so that would be 5 articles. I'm not sure where the magic number is, and I don't really care if it's at the county level or the town level, but I am a bit annoyed the nominator went to the effort of adding all the "double" cat's before this nom was finished. dm (talk) 00:45, 24 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Is this a defining category (in the technical sense)? Obviously it has implications for society, but I don't think we need intersections of specific conspiracy theories and occupation. Mason (talk) 03:39, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: delete. HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 22:25, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Non-defining Mason (talk) 03:27, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Non defining in what way? It is a meaningful category, unless we already have "Palestinians by year of birth" available somewhere that I haven't seen (in which case it is obviously redundant). Do you want me to explain the significance of the year? I tried to word the category name in a very neutral way, but maybe that makes it a bit too cryptic for people who are unfamiliar with the history of the region? FourPi (talk) 04:31, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Defining is not the same as meaningful. I'm aware of why 1948 is meaningful from a histori perspective, but that's not the point of categorization. Mason (talk) 13:27, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
But what is the point of having a meaningless category? Why would anyone want to find a meaningless subset of pages? FourPi (talk) 16:51, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
What do you mean by only royalty? every biography page in Wikipedia is categorized by birth year or "missing year of birth"? FourPi (talk) 16:51, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
and why not other leaders? FourPi (talk) 16:31, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Why is it useful to have a 20th century category? FourPi (talk) 16:51, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
A slightly smaller category would be Palestinias born in Mandatory Palestine, but the slightly larger category of 48, that includes Nayef Hawatmeh and Abu Muhammad al-Yazuri, seems preferable. FourPi (talk) 03:12, 29 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • No, categorizing by birth is meaningless, what is interesting to historians is when people were notable. Since that can easily span a number of decades, categorization by century makes the most sense. Marcocapelle (talk) 04:01, 29 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: no consensus. Thorough discussion; no need to prolong this with a relist. HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 22:24, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: This isn't a defining category; none of these towns have been sundown towns for 50 years. Walsh90210 (talk) 01:47, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose. Under your logic, we would need to delete every category in the tree: Sundown towns in the United States by state Mason (talk) 02:59, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose: The overall category needed to get broken up by state due to its size (and it isn’t even complete). To address the potential for confusion that you brought up, I copied the description from Category:Sundown towns in the United States. Hope that helps. If not, I suppose prepending “Historical” would further avoid misunderstanding, though it goes without saying for the most part. – Minh Nguyễn 💬 04:21, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete, not a defining characteristic. The siblings should also be nominated. Of course this is covered by some sources, but it is not a characteristic that reliable sources commonly and consistently refer to in describing these towns. Marcocapelle (talk) 04:44, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Grammatically incorrect EpicAdventurer (talk) 00:24, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Support. This could have been speedied. Mason (talk) 02:59, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It cannot be speedied since the move was done without a clear consensus and the season articles use a different name. Joseph2302 (talk) 16:06, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
