I have a question to the administration regarding Al-Andalus; since according to Arabic language books, the Umayyad architecture played a big role influencing the Islamic architecture of Iberia, but according to the official Wikipedia page (Moorish architecture), I hardly find the Umayyad architecture mentioned at all, instead the first influence mentioned here is the Berber culture (even though the Muslim Iberians fleeing the Spanish Inquisition in masses to North Africa were the ones who actually influenced the North with their Andalusian elements according to Arabic books). So was it the Arabic culture that first blended with the Native Iberian elements, or is the article correct that the Berber culture was apparent there and the Arabic culture had lesser influence to the local Iberian elements?. Zufar's father in the article is named al-Harith ibn Yazid al-Amiri why not al-Harith ibn Yazid al-Kilabi like his son's name? sorry I'm confused about this. Hi Iylaq. The source, in this case Tabari, uses Amiri for the father and Kilabi for Zufar. His father was not mentioned anywhere else (in the early sources) as far as I know. in the book of al tabaqat al kubra by Ibn Sa'd (this is the link= https://shamela.ws/book/1689/589), it is explained that Busr ibn Abi Artat's mother was named Zaynab bint al-Abras ibn al-Hulays who is a descendant of Amir ibn Lu' ayy. is this not mentioned by modern historians? @Syrian91: Not working against you personally. In any case, I was attempting to discuss at your talk page but did not hear a response. On the names, I was not necessarily opposed to your changes there either except when it contradicted the clear common name, but such widescale changes of name spellings should be discussed first. On the demographics of these villages, you need to provide credible sources which say that there are significant numbers of Christians besides the Greek Orthodox which live in a particular village. We cannot rely on your personal knowledge (even if it is accurate) or Facebook/Youtube/other social media. You need to provide citations to reliable sources (ex. news articles, journals, books, credible websites, etc.) It is redundant to add the 'Christian communities' category, as that category is already covered under 'Eastern Orthodox Christian communities'. Lastly, trying to drive your point by reinstating these changes will be easily undone and simply lead to being blocked from editing. You are new and you seem to be very interested in trying to improve Wikipedia's coverage of this topic area. That is great because we need more interested editors. It would be best for you to familiarize yourself with the policies and guidelines of the site, and not to assume that editors are being being hostile to you when they are only seeking to adhere (and help you adhere) to those policies/guidelines. Neither citation verifies that. Ref 1 appears to be a bad link (not sure what is happening there, since the wayback machine has it), and Ref 2 does not have a reference to this locale either. It does mention a Mazraat Ech-Chouf. Was unclear whether you were attempting to make a stub for this, and this was a typo (which is my guess, since it is spelled that way in your Ref 1). Ech-Chouf and el-Chouf are the same. Location 136/198 in the Levant Zone Grid. Appears on maps from the 1830s to now. This book has some WWII history. This history book has something about 1840-1861. @Cplakidas: There's one area the article needs to cover better, and that's Maslama's significant agricultural projects in the Qinnasrin/Balis area and southern Iraq. I touched on it in the article, but there's enough there for a separate section. Hugh Kennedy's "Elite Incomes in the Early Islamic State" in ed. Donner and Conrad The Articulation of Early Islamic State Structures will be the main source for this, and there is plenty of supplementary material. I'll have it done by tomorrow. We could then revisit the Lead and button things up. At that point, would you mind submitting the nomination for MILHIST ACR, since you have plenty of experience there? @Cplakidas: Problem is we do not know which of Maslama's descendants, if any, came from his marriage to Zufar's daughter. The mothers of Maslama's children are not identified in the sources I’ve come across. @איתן קרסנטי: Yes. 1) Egypt Eyalet was not a state or an autonomous entity of some kind, but a direct province of the Ottoman Empire (not until the 18th century, and really the 19th century under Muhammad Ali and his family, did Egypt become autonomous and then independent of the Empire)

2) It ignores the other major territorial component of the Mamluk empire, the Levant.

Re your edit summary "but restoring the previous ref layout as I do not see how the revised layout, which is not consistent with other FA's in this subject area, is an improvement" [3], there are several points that can be made.

1. As you are the main editor of this page, I will of course defer to your preference.
2. My aim is to get editors to think about the best layout. There are two aspects of layout:
   1. The layout as it appears to readers of the article.
   2. The layout as it appears, in edit mode, to editors while editing the wikitext.
3. Regarding 2.1, on most aspects I am fairly relaxed. The only point I think is categorically wrong is not using columns for the biblio listing. Long lines, especially on a wide screen, are very difficult, if not impossible, to read. There is a reason that most dictionaries, bibles, etc., and all newspapers are printed in columns! There is an optimum length for easy reading, and the {{refbegin}} template (with {{refend}}) helps you acheive that. Screen widths vary enormously between different devices, and the refbegin template automatically adjusts the columns to suit the width of the reader's screen.
4. Again on 2.1, you might have noticed that I used the "indent" option, which helps to distinguish the author(s). This is an option I don't usually use, but I think is mostly a matter of idividual taste. I thought, what the hell, let's use it for a change, see what people think. I would just add that if any of the "author"s are corporate bodies (such as a government department) instead of individual human beings, then I would recommend against using the indent option.
5. The second aspect (2.2) is a very different case. You can find a long list of reasons why the so-called "horizontal" format for cite templates (it isn't really horizontal at all) is so bad on my talk page here. The list may be long, but it is still far from complete. That is why, for the last six years or so, I have been developing a standard for setting out citation templates, and a script to implement it. I call both the standard and the script the boring name "ETVP", for "easy to visually parse". In other words, it has been explicitly designed to be as easy to read, and as easy to edit, as possible. Over the past six years it has had many thousands of small improvements made to it, so that, in my view, it is now close to an optimal solution. To take just one example, suppose you're in edit mode, and want to find the cite by a given author. That's quite hard to do in the usual LHT-clutter format, but in the ETVP format, you can spot it instantly. Many other examples in the list I linked to above.

@Oncenawhile: I kept up with the discussion early on, until it started getting into the weeds. As long as the article remains, or continues to contain, 'al-Aqsa Mosque' as opposed to the less common 'Qibli Mosque' that had been proposed in the past, I have no strong opinion either way. However, I will review the discussion again, and more sources, later today or tomorrow and offer my thoughts.

Hi Al Ameer! As you probably have seen, I recently substantially reworked the article on the Arab–Khazar wars. Barring a few minor additions that may be forthcoming, I think it is almost ready for a FA nomination, but first I would like to ask your opinion on it, mainly on three issues:

• Comprehensiveness, especially in additional sources that you may know as being sort of our resident Umayyad expert
• Understandability for the average reader who may not know anything about the Khazars and Arabs, or the geography of the conflict
• Whether the detail is sufficient, or too much, or too little. Depending on the sources, the level of detail can vary enormously, between campaigns described in one sentence (effectively "A is said to have invaded B in year C and reached the city D"), and others where a long portions of text are dedicated to them. I've tried to apportion detail based on what the sources do, and also details that help give some context to the conflict (eg. the use of a wagon laager or siege weapons), but would like a second opinion here.

Upon further reading, the article very much appears ready for an A-Class Milhist nomination, if not FAC. It covers the topic comprehensively, yet with concision, and is impeccably written. IMO, it is about as understandable to an average reader as it can get, though it might help to give even more locational context on some of the various regions and cities, especially the more notable places. It will help to mention that the Khazar realm was in modern Russia (and Ukraine?), for instance.

There is a healthy balance of details for a summary article of a century-long, on-off conflict. I found the extra detail in certain places to be enriching, rather than distracting. On the flipside, as I am not well-read in this particular subject, I cannot really tell when more detail is needed. If a separate article is started about the 737 Arab invasion, then this section could be safely pared down. Other than that, it's always good to get rid of any redlinks and to that end, I am happy to lend a hand. Let me know when you decide on taking the next steps. 1. Labeling the various regions, as well as the neighboring states and peoples
2. Delineating (roughly) the frontier of Sind.

Other than what is marked up, I suggest the following:

1. Converting the floating boxes with the caliphs' names to a legend format. The names of the caliphs should be spelled according to their modern English transliterations, i.e. Omar → Umar, Othman → Uthman, Mouavia I → Mu'awiya I, Abd Almalik → Abd al-Malik, Welid I → al-Walid I. "Mohammed's kingdom" should just be "Muhammad".
2. I forgot to mention the reigns of Sulayman (r. 715–717) and Umar II (r. 717–720). The southern Caspian coast expansion phase should be attributed to his reign not Uthman's, though the area should cross-hatched since it was not truly conquered. The conquest of Septimania or Narbonne (the boot shape north of Spain) should be attributed to Umar II.
3. Cyprus should be cross-hatched since it was not truly conquered.
4. Oceans and large bodies of water like the Caspian and Aral seas should be colored light blue.
5. Rather than different shades of blue, the different phases of expansion should be colored by a different palette, perhaps similar to File:Second Fitna Territorial Control Map ca 686.svg.

Thank you Amitchell125 ;) The map looks excellent. There are some more tweaks and then it should be ready for use in several articles:

1. The northwestern 'strip' of the Iberian Peninsula should not be shaded green because it was never conquered by Muslim forces.
2. Perhaps label as 'Septimania' the area conquered under Umar II's reign? Incidentally, this area is strictly limited to the Narbonne region, the area in pink in the Iberian Peninsula proper should be green.
3. The color used for the conquests under Mu'awiya should be the same shade of purple.
4. Khwarazm is the name of an area rather than a tribe and should thus be written in black without italics.
5. The conquests under Umar and Uthman are mixed up; they should be switched.
6. If possible, one of the two alternating colors of the Cyprus crosshatching should be the color used for the conquests under Uthman since Cyprus was first brought into Arab dominion or condominium during Uthman's reign.
7. On second thought, Sicily and Sardinia should be shaded and a corresponding label in the legend made called "Conquests under the Aghlabids (800–909)".
8. A label in the legend should be made for Crete: "Conquest by Abu Hafs (820s)".
9. The color indicating conquests under Sulayman should be crosshatched in the legend as well. Also, maybe a different color than white/light gray should be used.
10. The title of the map should be "The Early Muslim Conquests 630s–820s" or "The Early Muslim Conquests up to the 9th century".

Thank you today for the article, "about the Turabay dynasty, a family of Bedouin emirs that governed northern Palestine in the 15th–16th centuries under the Ottoman Empire. Their territory, formalized first as the 'Iqta of Turabay' then as the Sanjak of Lajjun, spanned the area between Jenin and Haifa. The long reign of the Turabays was owed to the strength of their tribe, their largely consistent loyalty to the sultan, and their success in administering and securing their sanjak. Backed by their close allies, the Ridwan and Farrukh dynasties of Gaza and Nablus, they prevented Fakhr al-Din II, the powerful Druze emir who had reduced Ottoman rule in the Levant "to a mere shadow", from conquering Palestine. These three local dynasties treated Palestine as their own dominion and, ironically, with Fakhr al-Din out of the way, the Ottomans were freed up to gradually eliminate these dynasties' power. Thank you for adding Touma to the Latakia Governorate template. English Wikipedia doesn't have an article for it yet. If you can give me the Arabic wiki link or even the village census data, I can at least put together a proper article stub with geo coordinate map.

I want to get this done because now that Touma is on a template, more people will see and possibly click on it. I don't want someone to get confused and end up linking it to Bab Tuma in Damascus.

Anything you can offer would help immensely considering the difficulty of finding proper sources due to the conflicts in and around Syria.
