I just wanted to drop a quick apology. You were right; I failed to see the existing refs in the table caption. I'm sorry for assuming that your addition was uncited just because you weren't adding any refs at the time. Happy editing! – voidxor (talk | contrib) 18:15, 9 January 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for uploading File:MK Service Medal in Gold.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}}
below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason>
with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Peripitus (Talk) 23:40, 16 January 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for uploading File:Cape of Good Hope General Service Medal.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 22:16, 25 January 2015 (UTC)

Hi Andre. I saw your reverted some edits I made on the page 1993 in South Africa. I have left a comment on the page's discussion page to talk about this as I feel it is important to resolve it before any more changes are made relating to this issue. Thanks, --Discott (talk) 12:11, 28 January 2015 (UTC)
Twelve is a dozen, that's why, Discott. A dozen examples of the (pre-1994 SA) Army killing women and children in a place of worship. See the wild (actually slanderous) statement by Thuvack on Talk:1993 in South Africa on 28 January: "...the army could easily fit the definition of a terrorist organization if the bench mark to be used is killing women and children in a place of worship. I could give you a dozen examples to prove this point." I'm still waiting. -- André Kritzinger (talk) 13:25, 7 February 2015 (UTC)

I have no problem with it being in the article, but I figured I would standardize it with all of the other lists that list "United States" as a section header. Let me know if there is a movement that is against this idea, as I would also support changing it back if it has been decided that that should be the proper way to note it. Hi, Andre:
1. By reverting the edits on the medal articles, you are also restoring the Checkwiki error #73: "ISBN-13 with wrong checksum". How do you propose to fix it?
2. Do you have a valid ISSN or ISBN for the Republic of South Africa Government Gazette? I couldn't find one.
In short, I don't think your reverts are the solution to the problem.

Hi, Andre Kritzinger:
It's good you have it in hand--that takes care of the verification. :-)
I don't like the number "9771682584003" as an ISBN (even though it has 13 digits) for two reasons:
According to the Wiki article "International Standard Book Number#Overview"
for a 13-digit ISBN, a prefix element - a GS1 prefix: so far 978 or 979 have been made available
Thus, "977" is not a valid prefix.
|When I run the number through [Book sources], it passes as valid (that's good). However, Google Book Search, Amazon.com, WorldCat, and most importantly all four South Africa sources return "No match found".
In other words, the number is not useful for readers of the articles to find a copy of the document.}}
I don't like the number "9771682584003" as an ISSN, which the article claims it is, for one reason:
The correct format of an ISSN is nnnn-nnnn. That's not the format of our "9771682584003".}}
If you agree, here's what I propose...
For each of the articles, change
"ISSN 9771682584003 27376"
to
"In the document, the printed identification number is 9771682584003."
We don't need to write the "27376" a second time because it's already specified in the citation here:
" Vol. 477, no. 27376".
Most importantly (for me :-)--no more Checkwiki error #73.
Do you agree? If yes, who makes the changes--you or me? Knife-in-the-drawer (talk) 14:20, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
Not THE answer yet, since it's a generic page, not leading to the specific document. That'll turn up again, I'm sure. -- André Kritzinger (talk) 11:28, 27 April 2015 (UTC)
This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a search with the contents of Sir Harry Smith's Medal for Gallantry, and it appears to be very similar to another Wikipedia page: Sir Harry Smith's Medal for Gallantry. Hi, Andre Kritzinger. You recently removed a sentence on the page 2015 in South Africa in which it was stated that the newly-elected Mmusi Maimane is the first black leader of the Democratic Alliance, claiming that it was "racist" and irrelevant. Innumerable reliable secondary sources [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] (nearly all, in fact) that covered the election stated this fact somewhere in their articles. Saying that Maimane's racial background is irrelevant is like claiming that it is irrelevant that Barack Obama is the first African-American President of the United States, or that it is irrelevant that Margaret Thatcher was the first and only female British Prime Minister. I strongly disagree with you on this matter, and look forward to hearing your response. Many thanks, Knyzna1 (talk) 18:52, 21 May 2015 (UTC)

Hi, Andre Kritzinger:
I finally got some time to work on the "Republic of South Africa Government Gazette Vol. 477, no. 27376 ISBN 9771682584003" situation. Here's what I found:
They are "your" 160 articles, so you can decide how to handle the situation. Here are a variety of possibilities:
Please leave a note on my Talk page to let me know what you decide. If a bot run is required, we'll discuss that step next. Knife-in-the-drawer (talk) 05:03, 28 June 2015 (UTC)
For future reference, rather than writing the same citation 160 times, you might want to create a Category:Specific-source templates. You create the template ONE time and transclude it 160 times. Then, if any changes are necessary, you simply edit the template, and the change is automatically propagated through all 160 citations. Knife-in-the-drawer (talk) 07:44, 28 June 2015 (UTC)

Andre, I have been looking through WP for a reasonable image for the ED, but unsuccessfully. There are any number on the web, but ownership is the issue. Do you have access to one? If not, I might be able to photograph one in a rack of WW2 medals, but it will be through glass (I'm not prepared to dismount the pieces)and I'm not sure how well it will present. Pity you couldn't use the image of the GV Colonial Auxiliary Medal (it was my grandfathers, I took some pleasure in having it in WP).Lexysexy (talk) 00:07, 7 July 2015 (UTC)

Re: this revert, first of all, I know almost nothing about trains, and maybe 'front of loc, to the left' is a standard way to refer to wheel layout diagrams. However, in ordinary English 'to the left' is fairly meaningless (except 'could you move to the left', or 'his house is to the left of mine', both of which still beg the question 'whose left?'). Being able to see the wheels means one is looking from left or right, and not looking at the front at all. I think we both understand that this is a diagramatic representation of wheels as they would be seen by someone looking FROM a position directly left of the locomotive. I leave you, who clearly does know about trains, to decide what is clear.Pincrete (talk) 18:15, 6 August 2015 (UTC)
ps … semi-apology, I suddenly realise the meaning may be 'Front of locomotive is to the left of this diagram' , ie it is not describing viewing point, rather how to read diagram, if I'm now right, apologies, but I still think the English is a bit unclear.Pincrete (talk) 07:02, 7 August 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:King's Medal for Champion Shots (George V).jpg. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Andre, you have just reverted my second attempt to edit Natal Railway Company. I pointed out in the comment that:
Wikipedia articles on South African railways refer to 1,067 mm as "Cape gauge" and 1,435 mm as "standard gauge." The best thing to do is to remove the reference to "broad gauge" and leave only the measurement.
However, you reverted it anyway, with the comment:
No. Such articles need updating, then.
Are you suggesting that *every* page on South African railways be edited to change "Cape gauge" to "standard gauge"? And "standard gauge" to "broad gauge"? Your proposal would cause massive disruption to Wikipedia:
South African sources now agree on "Cape gauge" for 1,067 mm and "standard gauge" for 1,435 mm. Here are some of the top results on Google:
You seem to be the only Wikipedia editor who is using "broad gauge" to refer to 1,435 mm in South Africa. Every one of the top Google results for 1,435 mm "broad gauge" in a Wikipedia page on South Africa is a page that you edited:
Wikipedia is a global encyclopedia. Terms that can cause confusion need to be avoided. For example, several Japanese pages refer to 1,067 mm as "narrow gauge", but others refer to only the measurement. That is a reasonable compromise that I have attempted to adopt for the Natal Railway Company article.

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited South African Class 11 2-8-2, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Lichtenburg. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

A rather bizarre statement, since you appear to have edited Honoris Crux Diamond, and that's certainly not what it says there! It says it was discontinued in 1993, not that it is not considered to have existed. Very different things. In addition, the reason for my edit was that the wording of Walker's current article suggests to me that he won a decoration at the level of the Victoria Cross or Medal of Honor twice, whereas in fact he won a decoration at the level of the Distinguished Service Order or Distinguished Service Cross twice, which is again rather different (i.e. he may have won the highest decoration to be awarded, but it was essentially a second-level decoration and not a first-level, since the first-level was never actually awarded). -- Necrothesp (talk) 14:02, 11 April 2016 (UTC)
Andre,
I am currently working on drastically expanding the size and scope of the article on the Netherlands-South African Railway Company. This article includes extensive text from some of your other articles on Wikipedia. Given your obvious expertise in the field, I would appreciate it if you took at look at the new and improved NZASM article as there is a good deal of things I am still uncertain about or could use improvement.
Francoisdjvr (talk) 09:29, 10 May 2016 (UTC)
@Andre Thank you for your response, I was actually curious about the source of that particular photo. If you're ever looking for Railway photos yourself, the South-Africa House's NZASM photo collection has since been digitized and can be viewed here or here though I was not able to find the photo of the 40-tonner from Braamfontein, so thanks for the information! Update: Found the original! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Francoisdjvr (talk • contribs) 11:26, 10 May 2016 (UTC)
@Andre Hey Andre, I'm sorry that you had to undo my edits on the locomotives. I did not see the navbar earlier, but now that you've mentioned it I feel a bit silly for not noticing it. Hi Andre. I see you have recently added an article on this topic, thanks. I hope you don't mind but I've made a few amendments. A question for you - where did you find out that the tractors (actualy built by Yorkshire PSW Co, not Beardmore) from the Singlewood line went to Wembley for the exhibition? I haven't seen any reference to this anywhere else and it seems unlikely as in 1924 they would be needed for the construction and subsequent operation of the Singlewood line - and NG6 No 98 did not appear on the line until some time after opening. Most of the trains on the Wembley line seem to have been worked by Beardmore-Sentinel steam tractors or Beardmore-Halley petrol ones, or a Burford half-track. I have seen no picture or report of the Yorkshires appearing there.
Incidentally did you know that there was a Dutton line in Natal, from the Leuchars Estate to the SAR at Sandymount, a distance of 5 miles? It seems that the Dennis tractor from Canada Junction worked there. (The Times, 31 May 1923)
Grin Low (talk) 01:24, 30 May 2016 (UTC)
Hi Andre, thanks for quick reply. The film is indeed a remarkable resource, but a pity it has no captions or commentary - it isn't even in chronological order. The Yorkshires appear but I think only at home in SA, but there is plenty of footage at Wembley with several different tractors of other makes. It's a pity the film wasn't available before I wrote my book (When not on Wikipedia I am R. G. Cash - thanks for citing my little effort as a source). I'll make a few changes if you don't mind and await your additional material. Grin Low (talk) 19:22, 30 May 2016 (UTC)

He has spoken to Wikimedia about it and $1000-1500 is possible for prize money. As someone who has previously expressed interest in African topics, would you be interested in contributing to one or assisting draw up core article/missing article lists? I appreciate your keenness to rename the categories, but you need to use the speedy rename process at WP:CfD rather than move them manually. You can request all of the South West African categories in one listing. A bot will then do all the renaming and recategorisation after the suggestion has been left unoppposed for 48 hours. * [[:Category:old name]] to [[:Category:new name]] – Reason ~~~~makes provision to list categories one by one, even though you said it can all be in one listing. Finding and listing them one by one will be just as tedious as manually finding and renaming them. What I need, it seems, is a request for a bot to look for any category/subcategory/article title that has a hyphen in South West Africa or German South West Africa and remove it, and also similarly edit the text of such articles. - André Kritzinger (talk) 18:02, 27 February 2017 (UTC)

Hi André Kritzinger
Yes I think your telling the truth and yes it will take time or such to go over again, I am as trying to list whatever your stateing of preserved or storage, but I think you may need to write it sometime and on all engines,
That means like you told me in the section perhaps write the ones preserved and in storage on steam engines and that be up-to you from now on,
And also I think I do need help on all these SAR engines of South Africa what's left and what is not, Trooper201 (talk) 22:35, 2 December 2017 (UTC)
So if were to put in preservation list or storage then will add in the
Number | Manufacturer | Year | Balanced Motion | Location | Status | Notes | |||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
CGR | IMR or BR | SAR | Sold | ||||||
Number | Manufacturer | Year | Balanced Motion | Location | Status | Notes | ||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
CGR | SAR | Sold | ||||||
Number | Manufacturer | Year | Balanced Motion | Location | Status | Notes | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
SAR | Sold | ||||||
Number | Manufacturer | Year | Balanced Motion | Location | Status | Notes |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
SAR | ||||||
This is something you need to try out if editing preserved or such engines why not give this template a go, and also make a edit if you can of it and if no CGR or IMR or BR then give it width=45 up to two colums or three without too much and colspan can be 2 or 3 in some places so that's not that hard though and it could work.
also check out the document link below tells of all SAR engines, it was requested when I asked permission from Sandstone Heritage Trust to learn of all heritage engines.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1etp-ezkDpRHmjaK-LVNPQsypAMfL5aZLHnw6_RzhEME/edit#gid=285943220 the link is in discription here on engines so tell me which of them is preserved or incorrect or in storage and also as spare parts before I go over it again? thanks... Trooper201 (talk) 04:27, 3 December 2017 (UTC)
Oh another place you forgot to mention is or on facebook if have a facebook account or know of it's site is Hilton Steam Heritage Association which I have discribed that Class 1, 1276 is a privately owned by RSSA Trust which I have discribed. Trooper201 (talk) 08:08, 4 December 2017 (UTC)
Also I wrote about Class 24 no. 3632 here is the scource http://www.nbloco.co.uk/news/2016/oct_16.pdf in this link and oh Mr Kritzinger you may also find http://www.nbloco.co.uk/news_letters.html this site if it's any use it helps keep anyone upto date with anything North British I guess. Trooper201 (talk) 09:00, 4 December 2017 (UTC)
Hi and I did use sources for wikipedia on some steam engines like you told me to do so, and they're is one from Issuu.com site I used SARI Volume 4 November 2015 magazine which in that case got some guidence but it's is an old one from 2015 but should work out just fine. I checked into the 6A 462 and it's at believe it or not The Big Hole Museum in Kimberley which I used as one of the scoures. and the Big Hole Museum scorce.
I do apologise for not useing it before I am listening and I am doing them for you.
