Hello, Kadane. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2018 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 19 November 2018 (UTC)
Thansks for making this bot! It seems to have stopped working for November and December? ... could I ask (apologies if this is stated somewhere) - do such bots run automatically or do they rely on you activating it? --Tom (LT) (talk) 00:42, 7 January 2019 (UTC)

Hi Kadane, it's been a while since I signed up. Sign up instructions. Says takes a week to get an ID but I remember it being a fast turnaround. Login to here with the new ID (eg. Kadane) and create a tool name (eg. prvbot). Then ssh to login-stretch.tools.wmflabs.org with the login ID - once there enter "become <toolname>". Thus there is the main ssh login ID, and for each tool created via the account web interface a separate "become" login name. Running bots is done on the grid, an array of 40+ servers where jobs are submitted. Following is an example cron job submission for one my bots shorty.awk to get an idea of the argument options:
37 5 * * 0,3,5 /usr/bin/jsub -quiet -once -N shorty.awk -l mem_free=50M,h_vmem=100M -e /data/project/botwikiawk/shorty/shorty.stderr -o /data/project/botwikiawk/shorty/shorty.stdout -v "AWKPATH=.:/data/project/botwikiawk/BotWikiAwk/lib" -v "PATH=/sbin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/data/project/botwikiawk/BotWikiAwk/bin" -wd /data/project/botwikiawk/shorty /data/project/botwikiawk/shorty/shorty.awk
(BTW you can see it in the directory /data/project/botwikiawk)
More info at Help:Toolforge, Help:Toolforge/Grid and 'man jsub' and 'man qsub'. -- GreenC 22:22, 6 March 2019 (UTC)

Kadane, would you mind if I request that the content model of User:KadaneBot/PR/Jsondump be changed to JSON?
If you don't know what "content model" means, this will:
See Wikipedia:Geonotice/list.json for an example of what a JSON page looks like.

Hi. A few of the edits that KadaneBot has made do not involve the redirect pointing to a disambiguation page e.g. [1] or [2]. It looks like they used to point to dab pages but now don't. Tassedethe (talk) 22:35, 15 April 2019 (UTC)
@Tassedethe: I figured out the issue and ran a scan through the edits. It seems like this was an isolated incidence (so far) and you caught all the false positives. I've cleaned everything up.
There are a lot of edits to go, so I really appreciate you catching this error!

We thank former members for their service and wish Madman a happy retirement. We note that Madman and BU Rob13 were not inactive and could resume their BAG positions if they so wished, should their retirements happens to be temporary.

Hello to all! This is the second Wikipedia Peer Review newsletter, containing some updates relating to peer review since the initial newsletter in August 2018. I intend these as infrequent newsletters that can be used to interact with interested editors and also let people know about relevant changes.
Thanks again to everyone who has been responding and helping out at peer review, it's great to see the venue so active.
I value feedback, and if you think I've missed something, want to include something in the next newsletter, wish to receive these, or don't wish to receive this again, please leave a note on my talk page, or add / remove your name from the mailing list.
Yours, --Tom (LT) (talk) 23:22, 13 July 2020 (UTC)
There's a new script you can use to automate the process of closing a review. Now, for most reviews you just need to click a button (hurray!)
Developed by User:WritKeeper, to whom we are all very thankful, there is a script to help automate closing peer reviews. To use the script:
importScript('User:Writ Keeper/Scripts/peerReviewCloser.js');
into your Special:MyPage/common.jsI've added it to the list of tools here: Wikipedia:Peer_review/Tools#Closure_script
Editors can now choose to be contacted periodically by User:KadaneBot with unanswered peer reviews in specific topic areas. If you'd like to be contacted, please visit the volunteers page and update your preferences
If you're a member of a WikiProject, you may have noticed peer reviews getting included in the article alerts lists, which is sure to enhance our subject-specific visibility.
This has been transcluded to the talk pages of all active WikiProject Peer Review users. To opt-out, leave a message on the talkpage of Tom (LT) or remove your name from the mailing list
The formatting of peer review volunteers (WP:PRV) has changed, so this will likely impact the function of your both. At present I think integrating it with WP:FRS is the best course of action as this helps keep things consistent with other areas of wikipedia. I hope that you're well in real life, Tom (LT) (talk) 03:53, 4 April 2021 (UTC)
Hi Kadane, you're receiving this message because you were previously listed at the list of volunteers for Wikipedia's peer review process, but you haven't made any edits to the English Wikipedia in over 1 year.
Because of your inactivity, you have been removed from the volunteers list, so that the list is kept up to date and editors who do need help can better find active editors. If you become active again and would like to add yourself to the volunteers list again, you can do so at any time by visiting the volunteers list.
Thank you for volunteering to be on the list previously, and all the best on your WikiVoyages! Message delivered to you with love by Yapperbot :) | Is this wrong? Contact my bot operator. | Sent at 18:01, 12 April 2021 (UTC)
Bots Newsletter, December 2021 | ||
---|---|---|
Welcome to the eighth issue of the English Wikipedia's Bots Newsletter, your source for all things bot. Maintainers disappeared to parts unknown... bots awakening from the slumber of æons... hundreds of thousands of short descriptions... these stories, and more, are brought to you by Wikipedia's most distinguished newsletter about bots. Our last issue was in August 2019, so there's quite a bit of catching up to do. Due to the vast quantity of things that have happened, the next few issues will only cover a few months at a time. This month, we'll go from September 2019 through the end of the year. I won't bore you with further introductions — instead, I'll bore you with a newsletter about bots. Overall

Bots Newsletter, January 2022 | ||
---|---|---|
Welcome to the ninth issue of the English Wikipedia's Bots Newsletter, your source for all things bot. Vicious bot-on-bot edit warring... superseded tasks... policy proposals... these stories, and more, are brought to you by Wikipedia's most distinguished newsletter about bots. After a long hiatus between August 2019 and December 2021, there's quite a bit of ground to cover. Due to the vastness, I decided in December to split the coverage up into a few installments that covered six months each. Some people thought this was a good idea, since covering an entire year in a single issue would make it unmanageably large. Others thought this was stupid, since they were getting talk page messages about crap from almost three years ago. Ultimately, the question of whether each issue covers six months or a year is only relevant for a couple more of them, and then the problem will be behind us forever. Of course, you can also look on the bright side – we are making progress, and this issue will only be about crap from almost two years ago. Today we will pick up where we left off in December, and go through the first half of 2020. Overall January 2020
February 2020
March 2020
April 2020
May 2020
June 2020
Conclusion
These questions will be answered — and new questions raised — by the February 2022 Bots Newsletter. Tune in, or miss out! Signing off... jp×g 23:22, 31 January 2022 (UTC) (You can subscribe or unsubscribe from future newsletters by adding or removing your name from this list.) |
