Hi Syrthiss, Sorry about replying this way. It seemed simplest option at the time (well, I'm upsidedown and clinging to the learning curve). Thank you for your kind welcome and advice. Yes: I would appreciate merging my two user IDs under John Collis. Password problem with the first, so I created second with hopes gaining access to fix it. Dear Syrthiss,
A page I added of Dr. Gad Nassi, a notable researcher in the Turkish Jewry's heritage, was recently deleted by you. The reason for deletion was copyright violation, with http://www.gadnassi.com/biography/. Dr. Gad Nassi sent an email requested by Wikipedia (I hereby affirm that...) to the following email: permissions-en@wikimedia.org. In this email Dr. Nassi stated that he allows me to copy his biography from gadnassi.com - his official website. Please let me know to which email to send his approval in case you haven't received it, so I'll be able to upload the page again.

Hello Syrthiss. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Hamptons International, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: It's not excessively spammy at all, and it's probably just about notable enough for A7 as well, mainly because of the number of offices and that it's a subsidiary of another notable company. Take to AfD if required. Thank you. GedUK 21:11, 16 February 2012 (UTC)
This article should not be speedy deleted as being about a musical recording that does not indicate its own importance and where the artist's article does not exist, because...

Despite looking at a sample of the user's edits, I managed to miss the spam links. Had I seen them I would certainly not have unblocked. I could simply reblock, or I could wait to see how the editor edits now, keeping a possible reblock in reserve. My inclination is to do the latter, but do you have any opinion? It is obvious that the edits I am striking through are acts of sockpuppetry by someone trying to pad his side's !votes in the AfD. You will note that I have not even commented on the page so as to avoid appearance of !vote-stacking myself.
Striking sockpuppetry is valid. I have not changed their words and it is still legible, just marked for the sockpuppetry that it constitutes. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.115.153.88 (talk) 12:41, 2 May 2012 (UTC)
Sorry to ask but why did you revert my attempt to fix a nonsensical template on that page? SkepticAnonymous (talk) 12:51, 2 May 2012 (UTC)
I am starting to worry similarly about efforts by a number of random IP editors to continually re-add content to the Forward disambiguation page, where would I request it be protected from IP vandalism? As well, a few editors are doing the same thing: [1] despite the WP:NPOV content from the page already being merged to the disambig page. SkepticAnonymous (talk) 13:27, 2 May 2012 (UTC)
More IPsocks and WP:SPA socks have shown up (User:Prozacstan, User:BabyDoc23 on Forward. Where can I request immediate assistance on this? SkepticAnonymous (talk) 14:01, 2 May 2012 (UTC)
Having looked at this this morning after the brouhaha on two page deletion discussions, I think you and your friends went WAY overboard in how you handled this new user. I see a lot of WP:BITE behavior as well as someone at an IP sockpuppet launching personal attacks on them after their talk page was locked.
An ounce of kindness might have saved the situation, it's a pity you have none to give. Instead of a new user learning the system, now we have a new user who's been blocked in a manner that looks punitive, for over a week.
Per WP:BLOCK: Blocks should not be punitive When blocking may not be used: Cool-down blocks
As near as I can read it, at least from my opinion, BOTH of these were routinely violated by those involved in blocking the user as well as those who continually bombarded the talk page while refusing to have the slightest bit of empathy regarding what was upsetting them.
It's my fear that we've lost someone that would have been a good editor, and someone who had the presence of mind to try to head off a problem before it exploded - yet instead of getting help when they called for it, they got the wikipedia equivalent of a gang beating from those who were supposed to help. This may have just run them off for good, or it might even turn them into a vandal in retaliation. That would be a very sad outcome. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.196.233.155 (talk) 11:38, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
Thanks DQ. I'm not all that sure that the IP is SkepticAnonymous, since I would assume that someone with the IPs knowledge would have been more adept at trolling. That said, I'm not going to contest the blocks. To the IP - when you made your post, my only blocking action regarding SkepticAnonymous was to remove their talkpage access for the remainder of the block. DeltaQuad was the holder of the block, having extended it to 5 days for block evasion. Since I had stated that I would support an unblock with three very clear conditions, and they seemed intent on not giving up on the third (that Edgar101's block for edit warring was not ADMIN ABUSE!!111!!!!), I removed their talkpage access to prevent them digging themselves further. I realize they were upset, and in my experience they weren't going to get less upset by anything anyone had to say to them. I'm sorry there were personal attacks on that page later in the day, but as I am not omnipresent I had logged off by that point. It is not general practice to fully protect a user's talkpage, and any of those attacks could and should have been reported and reverted through regular channels. Also, I had clearly tried to help them by pointing them to RFPP and by formatting their SPI request, but I have a conflict of interest in this area so my ability to act in an administrative capacity was limited. Hi Syrthiss, You recently reverted an update to a business page that I had made with the spam/advertising justification. I was wondering if you could point out which parts you find objectionable. We're happy to make revisions to the text, we're just looking to update the page with some new information. Sleep Country Canada is a well established business that has gained a significant amount of media attention for its various community and charity engagements. As I mentioned our intent is not to advertise on Wikipedia, we would just like to ensure the information on our page is well written and accurate. We're happy to work with any feedback you may have.

Second: I've wiped my talk page, including all the lying crap from that abusive shit DeltaQuad who I know now IMPERSONATED me on IRC and was using IP edits himself and then blaming me for them to justify increasing his blocks.
I'm going to get back to editing. If DeltaQuad or one of his cronies wants to pull this corrupt lying shit yet again, then I will cease to try to be a productive editor and will fuck up any page I ever get linked to from then on just to waste all of your time as much as I can.

Hi Syrthiss,
Thanks for your recent attention and tags to the ScrumbleShip page. One of the members of the game's community created the page, and I have since edited it for clarity, content, and proof of notability. I have worked to address your tags, and if you review the page you'll find there are five independent, reliable sources that cover ScrumbleShip in varying degrees of specificity and depth - the least deep of which being a mention in an entry by a well-known (in the indie space sims circle) blogger. There are three articles specifically about ScrumbleShip and an interview with Dirkson, the game's creator.
The page is also no longer an orphan, as two entries - "Voxel" and "List of space flight simulator games" now link to it.
Please give the page another look and either let me know what you think, or take action as you see fit.
Best regards,

A bit of an odd one, this. Are there any grounds for deletion of User:Reema_Welling/sandbox? You blocked the creator for NLT yesterday. - Sitush (talk) 13:37, 4 January 2013 (UTC)
You may recall blocking Reema Welling nearly a week ago per WP:NLT. I think that she is evading her block at Pooja Welling, using 113.* range dynamic IPs to remove the AfD notice. So far, the notice has been removed just twice. If it happens again, would you be prepared to semi-protect for the duration of the AfD? I rather think that the AfD will be relisted, so we'd be talking about semi until around 17 January. - Sitush (talk) 09:23, 9 January 2013 (UTC)

The article Phil Rice has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this newly created biography of a living person will be deleted unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article. The nominator also raised the following concern:
If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Hello there,
I am pleased to say that April will be a very exciting month for Wikipedia in Washington, DC. We have a lot of different events coming up, so you will have a lot to choose from.
First, a reminder that our second annual Women in the Arts Edit-a-Thon will take place on Sunday, March 30 at the National Museum of Women in the Arts.
Coming up in April, we have our first-ever Open Government WikiHack with the Sunlight Foundation on April 5–6! We are working together to use open government data to improve the Wikimedia projects, and we would love your help. All are welcome, regardless of coding or editing experience. We will also be having a happy hour the day before, with refreshments courtesy of the Sunlight Foundation.
On Friday, April 11 we are having our first edit-a-thon ever with the Library of Congress. The Africa Collection Edit-a-Thon will focus on the Library's African and Middle East Reading Room. It'll be early in the morning, but it's especially worth it if you're interested in improving Wikipedia's coverage of African topics.
The following day, we are having our second annual Wiki Loves Capitol Hill training. We will discuss policy issues relevant to Wikimedia and plan for our day of outreach to Congressional staffers that will take place during the following week.
There are other meetups in the works, so be sure to check our meetup page with the latest. I hope to see you at some of these events!
All the best,
James Hare

Following a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative permissions of users who have been inactive for one year (i.e. administrators who have not made any edits or logged actions in over one year). As a result of this discussion, your administrative permissions will be removed pending your return if you do not return to activity within the next month. If you wish to have these permissions reinstated should this occur, please post to the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e. as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised, that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions, and that you have not been inactive for a three year period of time). If you remain inactive for a three year period of time, including the present year you have been inactive, you will need to request reinstatement at WP:RFA. This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts. Hi, I saw your category at Category:United States military images and it states that Images taken or made by US military are Under United States copyright law, such images are public domain. Ive just written this article here: Wilhelm Tranow, and on the off chance I searched Google images for a picture of the man, and came across a picture of it, here: Tranow]. Is that image copyright under US law? Its obviously a image take sometime before or during the second world war. It has obviously been taken from some archive, originally by TICOM who were US and British military but theese folk who are now selling it. What I'm fundamentally asking, is there a process which I can do through to get hold of this image. Can an argument be made that it is in the public domain? scope_creep 18:44, 12 July 2016 (UTC)
Hello, Syrthiss. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.
Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.
In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:
Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.
This message was sent to the administrators' mass message list. To opt-out of future messages, please remove yourself from the list. 17:49, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

Hello,
Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. Hi Syrthiss.
A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.
It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.
If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. (Sent to all admins).MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:47, 15 November 2016 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Category:United States Marine Corps images requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and it is not presently under discussion at Categories for discussion, or at disambiguation categories.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Hello, Syrthiss. Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 10 December. All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2017 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 3 December 2017 (UTC)
Hi Syrthiss, I have unblocked the above user that was block by you in 2011. Their reasoning was fair enough to me, there hasn't been a sign of socking, and after 6-7 years, it seems to be a "lesson learned". I noticed you haven't edited since October, and I'm not sure of your timetable to return, so I wanted to make you aware of this. RickinBaltimore (talk) 17:37, 24 January 2018 (UTC)

Established policy provides for removal of the administrative permissions of users who have not made any edits or logged actions in the preceding twelve months. Because you have been inactive, your administrative permissions will be removed if you do not return to activity within the next month.
Inactive administrators are encouraged to rejoin the project in earnest rather than to make token edits to avoid loss of administrative permissions. Resources and support for reengaging with the project are available at Wikipedia:WikiProject Editor Retention/administrators. If you do not intend to rejoin the project in the foreseeable future, please consider voluntarily resigning your administrative permissions by making a request at the bureaucrats' noticeboard.
Thank you for your past contributions to the project. — JJMC89 bot 00:02, 1 May 2019 (UTC)
Administrators must secure their accounts
The Arbitration Committee may require a new RfA if your account is compromised.

This message was sent to all administrators following a recent motion. Thank you for your attention. For the Arbitration Committee, Cameron11598 02:57, 4 May 2019 (UTC)
ArbCom would like to apologise and correct our previous mass message in light of the response from the community.
Since November 2018, six administrator accounts have been compromised and temporarily desysopped. In an effort to help improve account security, our intention was to remind administrators of existing policies on account security — that they are required to "have strong passwords and follow appropriate personal security practices." We have updated our procedures to ensure that we enforce these policies more strictly in the future. The policies themselves have not changed. In particular, two-factor authentication remains an optional means of adding extra security to your account. The choice not to enable 2FA will not be considered when deciding to restore sysop privileges to administrator accounts that were compromised.
We are sorry for the wording of our previous message, which did not accurately convey this, and deeply regret the tone in which it was delivered.
