Syrthiss, Thanks for the feedback. I responded to you on my user talk page. Hopefully the new edits will work better. -kukini

Syrthiss, You should get into World of Warcraft. It is hands down the best MMORPG out there, AND this week (11th - 17th) its on sale for $30 at Best Buy rather than the usual $50. Galaxies.... it is nothing compared to WoW.

Ah, thanks Syrthiss. I'm having trouble right now deciding where to put wikilinks in my page. Could you help me wikify here, please? Thanks a lot! (learnt messaging finally) (KunalKathuria 04:01, 12 December 2005 (UTC))

Hey Syrthiss, I just wanted to say that you are really on top of things! :D The edit that you noticed: User_talk:65.64.50.116 was me. I didn't notice a mistyped URL until I logged out. Thanks! Elgorithms 19:38, 6 December 2005 (UTC)

Cvg "terminology" category removal

Hi! I noticed you added cvg "terminology" back to MMORPG terms and acronyms. The category is being removed per discussion here and here. Please don't add it back. I will update the category to Category:Computer and video game gameplay instead of culture. If you check that category you will see this is where the actual entries for the terms you listed are now categorized. Glad to discuss! -- Sitearm | Talk 22:04, 2005 August 20 (UTC)

I noticed your clean up of the dab Deputy. Pretty good, but it's best not to use piping. See Wikipedia:Manual of Style (disambiguation pages). Keep up the good work.--Commander Keane 13:06, September 9, 2005 (UTC)

Hi Syrthiss. I'm sorry I vandalized that page. Will you forgive me?

Martin and Rosalind Franklin

I've given up. I asked him on numerous occasions what his specific problems were with the article, but he refused to give any, just attacked me. I have tried the nasty and the nice aproach, but have got nowhere. The few edits he has done have contained many factual errors, and he claims that I have too few sources!!! So I'm going to let it lie for a couple of months, give myself time to calm down, any go and have a look then at the damage he has wreaked!! He's the only person on Wikipedia who has ever made me really angry, and it's not possible to get anywhere when angry. I just don't understand what he is trying to do, all he seems to want to do is pick a fight as far as I can see. Thanks for the message.Alun 06:08, 13 October 2005 (UTC)

And a hello

Just dropping you a message back for your message on my talk page. Thanks for making me feel welcome!

(From a bear in Sydney, Australia - Beardoc 08:52, 15 November 2005 (UTC) )

At the time of writing this, the RuneScape article has 15 links to non-official external sites. Wikipedia:External_links recommends "one major fansite". You being a more experienced editor than me: in your opinion, is it time to trim the links?

I remember many sites being added to Final Fantasy VII (which naturally lends itself to lots of fansites) and subsequently being pruned. Now it has 1 fansite link. The problem I see, is that how do you prune without appearing biased? Someone42 13:50, 15 November 2005 (UTC)

(Replying to your message on my talk page): Maybe we could replace it with a portal (OpenDirectory maybe?). That way, people can just add their sites to the portal, and the portal can take care of ranking the sites. BTW, I also do not play RuneScape: I just noticed that RuneScape tended to attract a lot of vandalism/cruft. Someone42 04:47, 16 November 2005 (UTC)

Massive Losses

What's wrong with "Massive Losses" term? 4 Billion dollars isn't a massive loss? Loss leader isn't massive loss? --Brazil4Linux 14:28, 24 November 2005 (UTC)

"Massive" can be viewed as sensationalistic, so I don't have any problems giving up on that. Why not just report it as $4B and leave it at that? Did you read the article on Loss leader that you linked? It has nothing to do with company losses, is has to do with marketing... ie selling xboxes at a loss in order to realize profits from games, to drive down a competitor's market share through your own saturation or even to prime the market for xbox 360. --Syrthiss 14:52, 24 November 2005 (UTC)
Isn't sensasioanistic, is a financial term, correctly used in Wikinews story. It's a great amount of money (4 billions). As you discuted in article, it's a negative fact and isn't POV or sensacionalistic as you describing now. --Brazil4Linux 14:56, 24 November 2005 (UTC)
What I am saying is that GoldDragon's version provides more information, and with my restoration of the wikinews I believe it covers both fronts. If the only point they are objecting to is the wording "Massive Losses" then why not give it up? Can you point me to a definitive financial source that describes "Massive" as being an amount greater than $2B? BTW - as I said on the talk page, it doesn't actually ever appear in either of the two stories linked on the Wikinews page. Its only in the title, and that is chosen by some editor just like here.
What I'm trying to say is, we can still describe the loss as $4B. It doesn't hurt to remove the wording of "Massive Losses", because I think many people would agree that it is still a lot of money. However, considering that Microsoft paid out $12B to shareholders last year (from one of the sources)...a 4B loss isn't "crippling" or "devestating".--Syrthiss 15:06, 24 November 2005 (UTC)

Vandalism?

It is pretty borderline, and I may have been too conservative in my definition of Wikipedia:Vandalism. User:Wikibofh has blocked User:84.67.217.255, so presumably the situation has sorted itself out. I apologize if my removal of your report was overly hasty, and I assure you that I wasn't in agreement with User:84.67.217.255's editing, but instead thought that it looked more like contra-consensus reverting to wacky trivia with fangush. Raving

Nah, I enjoy a good bit of raving now and again! Although I'm belying my own words as iTunes is currently playing Marlene Deitrich, followed by (on shuffle) Vera Lynn, then Dusty Springboard.

whitewater

Just trying to figure this out but not sure what the point is if you change something I fixed. The USGS gauge for the Little River is not an appropriate link for the general whitewater page. That is just one of thousands of gauges on rivers around the world and that one has not particular significance. You could set the link to all USGS gauges (which would make more sense) or a site that has gauges for many different whitewater runs. But just providing a link from one random river really doesn't make any sense at all.

Congratulations! It's my pleasure to let you know that, consensus being reached, you are now an administrator. You should read the relevant policies and other pages linked to from the administrators' reading list before carrying out tasks like deletion, protection, banning users, and editing protected pages such as the Main Page. Most of what you do is easily reversible by other sysops, apart from page history merges and image deletion, so please be especially careful with those. You might find the new administrators' how-to guide helpful. Cheers! -- Cecropia 05:06, 14 December 2005 (UTC)

Hello, hello!

I hope I'm doing this correctly. You contacted me after I made an adjustment to an article on the Bastille? I'm a long-time Wikipedia fanatic, but up until this point I've been on the silent, information-gathering side of things. Editing has never been a chief concern of mine, although previously I'd been fortunate enough not to encounter any vandalism. I was a little in the dark involving the community here: signing up for an account never occured to me! Hopefully I can make a worthwhile contribution, and fix up some of the shabbier articles I keep encountering. Err. ...Once I've finally waded my way through all these articles on etiquette and HTML, of course. Thanks for the kind words and a point in the right direction.

Also, congratulations on your recent promotion to administrator! --Toshihiko 04:33, 15 December 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for quick response on a vandalism. I should note that according to Ripe IP trace research, user comes from area that is quite relevant to the type of edits I make on this Wikipedia. Hi Syrthiss Phoenix (there's still hope you'll join our cabal),

I just wanted to thank you for supporting me in my RfA. To tell you the truth, I was surprised by all the support I've gotten. I never saw myself as more than an occasional Wiki-hobbyist.

My wife sends her curses, as Wikipedia will likely suck up more of my time. She jokingly (I think) said she was tempted to log on to Wikipedia just to vote Oppose and let everyone know that she didn't want her husband to be an admin.

Disco Demolition

the page has been vandalized almost every day for 2 weeks. Always by the same individual (I doubt this band - If it ever even existed - has that many fans). I think this page is a perfect candidate for semi-protection. Glad you noticed

Yeah, you're correct. "Microsoft Fanboy" is just the latest incarnation of Brazil4Linux, and he's been attacking not just the XBox pages, but the PS2 one, NeoWin, and others. Brazil4Linux's tactics are insane: he gets blocked, creates a new account, gets blocked, creates a new account; this has been happening for months, over and over and over again. This is the danger of letting "anyone" edit Wikipedia, it seems... we've got not just legitimate users, but persistant repeated vandals here too. Sigh...
