- For American football, see WikiProject Deletion sorting/American football
This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Football (soccer). It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.
- Adding a new AfD discussion
- Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
- Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
- You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Football|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
- There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
- Removing a closed AfD discussion
- Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
- Other types of discussions
- You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Football (soccer). For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
- Further information
- For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.
This list is also part of the larger list of deletion debates related to Sports.

Playing 110 minutes in the highest Finnish league, 264 minutes in the second Finnish league and 0 minutes in the Portuguese second league is an extremely weak claim to notability. In other words the footballer thoroughly fails WP:SPORTCRIT, unless he can be shoehorned in with strong, significant independent coverage. Now, Rodrigues is mainly known for scoring goals on the fourth Finnish tier. This is an amateur league for mailmen and schoolteachers, and in my opinion, it follows that the coverage on his exploits in that league (Palloliitto, found in the Finnish Wikipedia) is insignificant in nature. The subject therefore fails WP:GNG as well. Coverage like this is paywalled, but looks short. But you be the judge. Geschichte (talk) 08:35, 12 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Routine sports fixture, no evidence of lasting notability.
Both teams are having inconsistent seasons, so whilst result might be a surprise, there has been no ongoing coverage about the match. Man City were on a run of 4 consecutive league defeats, and 6 out of 8, so any individual defeat is not particularly notable. Spike 'em (talk) 09:05, 12 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

- Delete Yes, of course it has sources. But so do the other 379 Premier League games that happen every season, and for that matter the other 1,656 fully professional English league games as well. You could probably write a well-sourced article on all 2,000+ of them - every year. However, we have very few articles on individual league games, and most of those are games where some sort of record was set, or they have an unusual and lasting amount of sourcing (i.e. Battle of the Buffet). This one meets none of those criteria. Black Kite (talk) 11:28, 12 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

- First time Rangers have ever lost at home to a lower division club in the Scottish Cup. Does that make it Notable or a cute bit of trivia? Isthisthe sort of thing where we have to wait to see if it has the same sort of cultural reference as the Berwick match? In Vitrio (talk) 08:07, 10 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete, regrettably. I think there is a pretty high bar for a separate "upset" article. Remains to be seen if this game has lasting coverage in the way of the Berwick Rangers game. I'm a bit surprised there isn't an article on the "Super Caley" victory against Celtic (2000). Jmorrison230582 (talk) 09:13, 10 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

- Delete second tier team beating Rangers is unusual but unlikely to have lasting coverage, since second tier teams beating first tier teams in cup matches happens often (e.g. Liverpool lost to Plymouth on the same weekend). Nelemans spent his entire career at amateur levels before apparently retiring in 2013. Secondary source analysis from my search:
- Omroep Brabant: Transfer rumor
- Eindhovens Dagblat: Managerial announcement
- Amateur Voetbal Eindhoven: Interview with small independent analysis and seems to be a local source.
- Algemeen Dagblad: Paywalled and only contains him in an image caption.
None of those references contain significant coverage that are required for Wikipedia. Corresponding article on Dutch Wikipedia is just an unsourced dumping ground.

- Comment I am withdrawing this nomination per the good sources found and added by User:Svartner. @Clariniie: Could you take a further look due to the different state of the article now? 08:50, 6 February 2025 (UTC)C679[reply]
- Regardless of whether those describe the person's career or not, transfer sources are considered routine coverage. Social media ones are user-generated and should never be used on Wikipedia. ⋆。˚꒰ঌ Clara A. Djalim ໒꒱˚。⋆ 11:18, 6 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
- They are not user-generated. There is a very limited number of people who have access to a club's Instagram profile. However, they are primary sources and do not contribute to notability. Furthermore, some "transfer sources" are in-depth and some (many) are not, no blanket statement can be made about transfer news - e.g. some sources use the transfer news opportunity to go into detail about the player's career, abilities, personality etc. At this point, anyway, the AFD can be closed in 20 hours after the normal elapsed time. - I kinda agree if secondary routine announcements go in-depth about the person's career! This is such a thing that comes to my mind. ⋆。˚꒰ঌ Clara A. Djalim ໒꒱˚。⋆ 10:08, 12 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

- Delete. 1. Soccerway: stats
N. 2. GloboEsport 1: passing mention
N. 3. Futebol Interior: routine transfer announcement nearly identical to the club's press release
N. 4. GE 2: routine transfer announcement also derived from PR
N. 5. Press release from 3,
N. 6. Marcou no esporte: reprint of press release,
N. 7. GZH: routine interview, little secondary coverage
N. 8. GZH: transfer announcement, slightly more material than usual but all of it is shallow stats, not secondary analysis

- The 8. source provides in-depth coverage of the player's entire career. The others complement practically all other remaining information. Excluding information that goes beyond the player's sporting career, there is nothing missing. Svartner (talk) 03:57, 11 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
- Comment – More complementary sources [9], [10], [11], [12]. Svartner (talk) 04:37, 11 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
- None of these sources provide any coverage of him beyond listing which teams he played for and other trivial info from press releases (and the last one is a football club). That is all info we could get from looking at his stats page, thus routine and primary. JoelleJay (talk) 23:27, 11 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
